Motorcycle license A: no more exam to qualify, just a course

Important news for motorcyclists. Who wants to get the category A driving licence, i.e. the one that allows you to drive motorbikes without engine capacity limitations, no longer has the obligation to take the exam, but will have to take a course in an authorized driving school. The innovation is operational from today and is valid only for those who have already held an A2 driving license for at least two years. The same goes for those who have had an A1 license for at least two years and want to obtain an A2 licence.

The course

Starting today, 18 September 2023, it will be sufficient to take a course, with seven hours of lessons. Three are collective and theoretical, with a maximum of five candidates per session, while the remaining four are practical, with an individual exercise on motorcycles of the category of the license requested. However, the alternative of taking the exam also remains valid.

Motorcycle licenses

La driving license A1 allows you to ride motorcycles with a maximum displacement of no more than 125 cc, with a power of no more than 11 kW (15 HP) and a power/mass ratio less than or equal to 0,10 kW/kg.

La driving license A2 allows you to ride motorbikes with power lower than 35 kW and a power ratio of 0,2 kW/kg

La license A allows you to ride motorbikes of any type of displacement and power

Anyone who doesn't have a motorcycle license

For those wishing to obtain the A2 or A driving licence, without first possessing the A1 or A2 respectively, it will however always be necessary to take a theoretical and practical exam.
