New Yamaha YZF-R3, the R – Series that satisfies everyone

It will be a Supersport to drive every day

New Yamaha YZF-R3 – The Milan Motorcycle Show is approaching and Yamaha is preparing by continuing to whet the fine palates of two-wheel enthusiasts with the new one YZF-R3, developed with the aim of creating a super sports car to ride every day, which sits between the famous YZF-R125 and YZF-R6, representing an ideal "bridge" for those who want to move from 125 cc to a higher displacement. The new YZF-R3 opens the doors of the R-Series world to a new generation of riders finally bridging the gap between YZF-R125 and YZF-R6, maintaining all the DNA characteristics of its "R" sisters, such as the aggressive fairing, the double headlight, the central air intake, the athletic and aerodynamic lines and the muscular profile with the masses projected forward, given by the tail thinned, sharpened and raised, and with the angular V-shaped sides of the hull remodelled.

The new Yamaha YZF-R3 is powered by a new 321 cc forward-facing twin-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC, with a bore x stroke ratio of 68,0 mm x 44,1 mm and a compression ratio of 11,2:1, delivering maximum power of 30,9 kW/42 HP @ 10.750 rpm, and the maximum torque of 29,6 Nm/3.0 kg-m @ 9.000 rpm, which create “a Supersport to drive every day”, ensuring absolute driveability at medium-low rpm, with a spirited and reactive character at high rpm. From the R-Series family the new Yamaha YZF-R3 also takes up the distribution design, which, being direct, compact and light, is capable of ensuring excellent performance, especially at the limit of the red zone.

The new Yamaha YZF-R3 employs lightweight DiaSil cylinders, adopted for the first time on a Yamaha twin-cylinder, which create a friction-resistant microstructure and optimize heat dispersion, reducing weight and minimizing oil consumption. Just like the latest two- and three-cylinder engines fitted to the MT-Series, the new powertrain adopts the cylinder offset, which reduces power losses due to friction and enhances power delivery, for even more fun driving. One of the main features of the new forward-facing twin-cylinder of the new Yamaha YZF-R3 is, then, the balance between low-rpm driveability and high-rpm performance, possible through a lightweight 180-degree shaft that allows the engine to push hard at high revs, with breathtaking acceleration and a responsiveness that delivers strong emotions at all revs.

Being also designed for an audience of novices, Yamaha technicians have developed the chassis of the YZF-R3 so that I can offer a predictable and reassuring driving, for this reason it has been equipped with a diamond tubular steel frame, which brings the weight of the motorbike to just 169 kg in running order (with all liquid tanks full). The dimensions of the chassis, the instant response of the engine and the progressive acceleration contribute to enhancing the versatility of the YZF-R3, a motorcycle capable of tackling urban routes with ease, sporting weekend excursions and much more.

l lightweight 17-inch aluminum wheels, which are fitted with 110/70-17 (front) and 140/70-17 (rear) tires, and the five pairs of thin spokes they place emphasis on the Supersport soul of the bike and accentuate its R-Series characteristics. Precisely for this reason the braking system is defined with a 298 mm floating disc front brake with two-piston calipers at the front and a 220 mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear. The multifunction instrumentation offers a wealth of information and includes the analogue tachometer and digital speedometer. The close link with the R-Series also emerges from details such as the gear shift indicator, with a design similar to that used on the YZF-R1. To complete the gear indicator, the fuel warning light, the liquid temperature indicator, indications for reducing consumption, clock, tripmeter and more. The new Yamaha YZF-R3 will be available in Race Blue and Black colors from April 2015, at 5.390 euros fc
