MV Agusta, Lucky Explorer Project 9.5: a new idea for adventure enthusiasts at EICMA 2021 [LIVE PHOTOS]

Three-cylinder engine, 123 horsepower

Lucky Explorer Project 9.5 it is the result of work aimed at a specimen capable of recalling the charm of competitions in the desert. A project introduced at the 78th edition of EICMA, the International Two Wheel Exhibition, together with the exemplary Lucky Explorer Project 5.5, as part of an initiative launched by MV Agusta.

MV Agusta Lucky Explorer Project 9.5

Il 9.5 project it is designed to tackle off-road routes, particularly noting the cycling part with a wheelbase that extends for 1.580 millimeters and the different wheel sizes, the front one from 21 inches and the back one from 18 inches. The same project aims to develop a compact and versatile motorcycle with a height-adjustable saddle, placed at 850 o 870 mm according to the information, which is based on a new MV Agusta engine.
The Lucky Explorer logo stands out visually, also partially recalling the historic one Elephant and there are several aesthetic elements that link and at the same time differentiate the Lucky Explorer Project 5.5 and 9.5 models. For example, the front part is covered in black, like the robust hand guards. The optical groups propose a refined motif in front of a prominent luminous prospect and, compared to the 5.5 model which has semicircular DRLs recalling the motif of the historic Elefant 900, in the case of the 9.5 model the luminous design is more articulated with a sinuous development of the elements until a bold optical perspective is obtained.
A laterally faired radiator is also highlighted, noting a panel which in the central section reveals a semicircular element. Furthermore, a skid plate recalls the nature of the model, characterizing materials also stand out, in particular the forged carbon fiber part placed as a connection between the radiator area and the skid plate. Furthermore, the front braking system is protected by a large, windowed disc cover, functional for the cooling phase.
The motorcycle is equipped with an instrument panel TFT in color from 7 inches with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection, the electric blocks have also been specifically defined, considering both functionality and ergonomics. We also note a concealed bag fixing system associated with the tail.

Technique and engine

The Project 9.5 features a steel frame with a closed double cradle pattern. Designed to obtain an optimized balance based on comfort and the right rigidity, with off-road performance in mind, this is made up of forged and extruded parts. The swingarm is made of aluminum alloy, so as to have a high strength-to-weight ratio. The same material is also used for the fork plates, however the rear subframe is made of steel. The tank can hold 20 liters of fuel and overall the dry weight of the model results from 220 kg.
The 9.5's engine was specifically defined and signed by MV Agusta, drawing inspiration from the 800 three-cylinder in-line unit. A four-stroke three-cylinder in-line heart, but new conceptually given the various technical innovations and the increased bore and stroke measurements to obtain an effective displacement of 930,63 cc (931 cc), without modifying the dimensions of the 800 engine. Other aspects such as the position of the head surface, the angle of the cylinders and the attachments of the engine on the three axes and of the pinion also remain confirmed.
The distribution is made up of a double overhead camshaft, the cooling is liquid and there is also a compression ratio of 12,5:1. Among the interesting aspects is also a counter-rotating crankshaft. The engine weighs 57 kg, according to information.
The transmission is characterized by a new primary transmission gear with straight teeth, with drive from the countershaft and the pump control gears are new. Just as there is mention of further innovations linked to this part and to two clutch options between an automatic Rekluse or another standard type, in any case in an oil bath, with hydraulic control on the left side. Another interesting new feature is the optional electro-actuated gearbox, specifically developed.
The maximum power reaches i 123 horses at 10.000 rpm with a peak torque of 102 Nm at 7.000 rpm. The specific power is 132,25 HP/litre, based on what has been reported.
