MV Agusta recently acquired a racing example of CSS dating back to Years' 50 and is restoring it. A discovery possible thanks to Catawiki, the well-known online auction site that deals with rather rare and unique objects.

The specialised farming model

Developed with a displacement of 175 cc, which grew after 204 cc, this racing example is an interesting piece of motorcycling history. Protecting their authenticity, most of the parts have been preserved, such as the Smiths race tachometer, the TT Amal carburettors in this case in a dual configuration, the stunning Megaphone exhaust and the Avon “Green Spot” tyres.

Returning to its origins, this model was purchased in 1958 by the British rider and collector Chris Newport, sold by Stanley Hailwood, father of the nine-time world champion “Mike the bike” Hailwood. One of the most famous champions in the history of the MV Agusta brand.
Newport used it in various amateur competitions, most notably at Brands Hatch, before putting it aside and selling it a few years later, as reported. The bike then reappeared in Holland in 2012 and was recently auctioned on Catawiki. According to the information, an executive from MV Agusta noticed the existence of this rare pearl and quickly secured the historic model.
