Motorcycling – The Italian Motorcycling Federation (FMI) and the National Motorcycle Association (Ancma), together with the magazine Motociclismo, launch a joint campaign against the motorway toll for motorbikes. “The reason is that dealerships do not apply, contrary to what happens in almost all of Europe, a toll for motorbikes that is lower than that for cars, if not even free.” we read in a note. For example, in France the Paris-Lyon route (453 km) costs 33 euros for cars and 20 for motorbikes. In Italy, on an equivalent journey such as the Florence-Naples (468 km), a small-sized motorbike pays the same as a large-displacement car: 33 euros.

Together with Motociclismo in June, millions of stickers will be distributed to unleash, also through the hashtag #metapedaggio, "guerrilla marketing" against this all-Italian inequality. In addition to the Motociclismo magazine, the awareness campaign will also take place through the information and social channels of the FMI and ANCMA. “Vsaid that from 2008 to 2015 the motorbike accident rate on the motorway almost halved, and that motorway traffic on two wheels is worth only 0,5% of the dealerships' turnover, making a different pricing sustainable even now.” the note continues. It would be the most natural thing in the world given that a motorbike weighs on average one sixth of a car and takes up a quarter of the space: why not reward those who smooth traffic as happens for example with the discount already offered by some motorways for car pooling ? Among the 7 million Italian motorcyclists, 64% (source Motociclismo.it, survey dated 16/05/2016 on a sample of 2.072 people) see the safest way to travel on the motorway, and would take it much more often if a 'tailored' toll was applied. “What enormous contribution to traffic would the Italian State make if it provided concrete help to all these users?”.
