Good sweet and sour for owners of historic motorcycles. According to the contents of the 2019 Budget Law, in fact, the exemption from paying stamp duty which was abolished in 2015 by the Renzi Government returns (for vehicles between 20 and 30 years of age), but the expected tax will be reduced only by 50% of its value.

Historic motorcycles: here's what changes in 2019

Basically, some good news arrives, but only halfway. The measure concerns both cars and motorcycles, thus welcoming a very large public, but takes into account the needs of the state coffers, which will continue to have in their revenue items a tax considered by many to be unfair if not superfluous. Remaining strictly current, the 2019 Budget Law reintroduces the topic of tax exemption on historic motorcycles, with a "but". Owners of this type of vehicle, who meet certain criteria, will be able to benefit from a 50% discount. Who is entitled to these benefits? Anyone who has a motorbike of historical and collectible interest with registration seniority between 20 and 29 years. However, total exemption begins at the thirtieth year of age. With one condition: the owner of the vehicle must obtain a certificate of historical relevance which must be reported on the registration document. The document must specify the date of construction, the make, the model and the technical characteristics of the vehicle (all those registered with ASI, Historic Lancia, Italian FIAT, Italian Alfa Romeo, Historic FMI fall into the category of motor vehicles of historical and collectible interest). All this, however, has a cost. The issuing of the certificate has a one-off cost which varies from approximately 100 to 150 euros to which must be added the certification of the payment of 9 euros on current account 9001; certification of the payment of 14,62 euros on current account 4028. Furthermore, the procedure for updating the registration document has a cost of around 25 euros for those who decide to do it independently and the cost varies depending on whether you decide to rely on a consultancy firm for these types of practices. Anyone who does not carry out this step will pay the full value of the tax.
