Moto Morini Milano, looking to the past to aim for the future
It takes up the concepts of the legendary 350, adapting them in a modern way
Just a motorcycle enthusiast (and motors in general, given that his image is linked to that of Jaguar), like Philip LaMantia, hosted the unveiling of the new creation of Moto Morini, a model from a brand with an 80-year history, which in this new direction wants to make the artisanal product a winning philosophy. It therefore aims to produce a limited number of examples, but with great attention to factors such as quality, 100% Made in Italy and the taste for craftsmanship and "handmade".
A small company therefore, which wants to be outside the box and, for this very reason, essentially without competitors, from a certain point of view. All handmade and customizable, created for customers who appreciate design and technology, but above all exclusivity.
The journey into the "Morini world", which anticipates the presentation of the new model, then passes through the story of the experience of customers, past and present, who link their passion for motorbikes to their emotions and their private lives, with an almost physical with motorcycles. So before unveiling the new model, illustrious "Morinisti" spoke about their relationship with the Italian brand, including the guest of the evening, Filippo La Mantia. A self-confessed Harley rider, he discovered Moto Morini 2 months ago and fell in love with it, first and foremost for its Italian nature.
The absolute protagonist of the evening, however, is her Moto Morini Milan, which comes after the sporty one Corsair ZZ, presented last year and which also marked the first time for a Euro 4 engine. Moto Morini then recently launched its One-Off division, for the creation of highly customized products, which can even be approved as a one-off. In 2017 the Corsaro will arrive in a Racer version, with clip-on handlebars and other sporty details and also the new Scrambler. The protagonist of this presentation is instead a motorbike that brings the legendary "three and a half" back to the present day. As then, today too it is legendary Frank Lambertini to define and create its engine, which is the 1.200 with a base similar to the Corsaro, with the obvious differences. In honor of the new course and the headquarters on the outskirts of the city of Milan (in Trivolzio, in the province of Pavia), the new bike is called Milano.
Il designer Angel Lussiana has been able to reinterpret stylistic elements of the 70s in a modern key. A task that was anything but simple, also because the square shapes of that era conceptually did not go well with the softness and elegance typical of Italian design.
And instead the Milano is extremely elegant and very personal, the points in common with its ancestor are immediately evident, but it does not descend into the ridiculous or the obvious, on the contrary. Truly an object that would look good in a living room, as well as being used and exploited for what it was created for. Modern, as evidenced by the digital dashboard with 5" LCD screen, but with a tank that is almost a work of art. Square shapes recalling the past, a color with beautiful color contrasts and a perforated metal band that crosses it longitudinally.
There is no shortage of chassis with valuable elements, such as the up side down fork Mupo or the signature 4-piston monobloc calipers Brembo, which bite 320 mm discs.
All strictly Made in Italy, made in house by Moto Morini or by suppliers who are the flagship of our country's motorcycle industry. Even the tyres, needless to say, are from Milan Pirelli, as the forged aluminum rims fit Angel GT.
Its heart is a 2 cc short-stroke twin-cam 87° V1.187, able to 110 horses and revised to offer the torque lower down, as well as with a new voice, given by the new exhaust, which derives from the unique Ti22 example, derived from the Corsaro ZZ from the Moto Morini One-Off division.
All that remains is to wait for the price and details to be communicated, but above all to try it, to return to the 70s with the taste of a 100% Italian and 100% artisanal product.
