A motorcycle with adaptive aerodynamics

A new step, a new beginning over the next 100 years. At the 78th review of EICMA the new one is present Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, the example of a new path that represents a technological evolution associated with a reference to the tradition of the brand. Style, refined solutions such as adaptive aerodynamics and a characteristic dynamism linked to a new engine are the central elements of this new engineering manifesto from the historic manufacturer.

Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello

The design of the new Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello it appears fluid and highly refined, highlighting above all the new twin-cylinder. Traits that propose, according to more current canons, the typical stylistic elements of the brand, ranging from the windshield with a reference to the Le Mans 850 III of the 1981, passing through the muscular design of the tank and the heads of the propulsive heart, up to the underseat side panels with slits that bring to mind the Le Mans of the 1976.
They are reported two versions differentiated by configuration, the one with the most features also includes heated grips, Öhlins semi-active suspension, quick shift and the Moto Guzzi MIA multimedia platform which allows you to connect the smartphone to the instruments via Bluetooth with different functions.
Among the prominent innovations is the adoption of adaptive aerodynamics, the first Moto Guzzi example which also includes sophisticated electronic solutions such as a six-axis inertial platform and ABS cornering, in addition to the aforementioned semi-active suspensions and quick shift.
The example is equipped with full headlights LED with DRL and "bending lights" system with a pair of additional lights placed in the parabolas which illuminates the inside of the curve, as well as having a type of instrumentation TFT in color from 5 inches.

Technique and technology

Starting from the electronic part, the new system adaptive aerodynamics automatically managed the position of the deflectors located on the sides of the tank from 17,5 liters, based on the speed and selected Riding Mode. These are four, being able to choose between Voyage, Sport, Rain e Street. Each controls three different engine maps, four levels of traction control, three levels of engine braking and, if present, the calibration of the semi-active Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension which can automatically manage the hydraulics, considering the type of driving and the conditions of the vehicle. asphalt, as indicated.
The appendages raised to the maximum attenuate the pressure from the air to the rider by 22%, bringing the specimen closer to the levels of protection offered by the most voluminous tourers, also taking into account the protection guaranteed by the electrically height-adjustable windshield.
The solutions also include the electronic accelerator Ride-by-Wirea Marelli 11MP control unit, together with the one already mentioned 6-axis inertial platform, cruise control and Cornering ABS functional when cornering.
The chassis features a steel tube frame with a wheelbase of 1.486 millimeters, an interesting fact when considering overall agility. An aluminum handlebar with a variable section stands out which supports a more proactive or relaxed type of riding, compared to the seat. In short, the setup favors an active and relaxed driving position. Furthermore, a large and padded portion of the saddle is provided for the passenger, also having handles to hold on to. Among the various dedicated accessories there is also a set of panniers which do not require additional supports during assembly, as indicated.

Motor

The heart is also representative “compact blocks”, with a'90° transverse V architecture of the twin cylinder which recalls tradition, but is completely new. An integral definition that has resulted in an engine that is compact in size and lightweight 103 mm shorter than the small block that animates the Moto Guzzi V85 TT. It is also distinguishable by the rotated heads of 90%, increasing liveability on board and optimizing the layout of the components linked to electronic intake and injection.
The displacement is 1.042 cc with four chain-controlled valves per cylinder and double overhead camshaft distribution with finger rocker arms. An engine whose lubrication is wet sump and liquid cooling, to which add a hydraulic control for the clutch in an oil bath.
The cardan shaft final transmission is associated with a rather extended aluminum single-sided swing arm located on the left. The output of the transmission shaft is also placed lower than previous Moto Guzzi engines, with results regarding the reactions on the suspension connected to the transfer of torque, without the use of reaction rods on the swingarm.
We report a power of over 115 horsepower and couple greater than 105 Nm, with 90% available already from 3.500 rpm and the limiter set at 9.500 rpm.
