Moto Guzzi and the Navy

The spread-winged eagle symbol linked to Moto Guzzi since its foundation way back 1921, derives from the common militancy of the founders Carlo Guzzi and Giorgio Parodi in the Royal Navy's Aeronautical Service during the First World War. During the Great War the two friends, together with the pilot Giovanni Ravelli, decided that once the conflict was over they would dedicate themselves to the development of motorcycles. But Ravelli was unable to see the realization of this dream because he was the victim of an accident in 1919. To remember their friend, Guzzi and Parodi adopted the symbol of the eagle with spread wings, known to Guzzi enthusiasts for generations.
THENaval Aviation, to which the limited series model introduced on the occasion refers, is the aerial section of the Navy, designed to operate on the sea together with naval units. It dates back to 1913, year recalled in the number of developed examples of this limited edition. The year of the official establishment of the Royal Navy's Aeronautical Service. At the moment the Navy's air forces report to COMFORAER (Air Forces Command), which organizes and coordinates the activities of all Navy air assets, including maintenance activities, training of flight and ground personnel, as well as of the control of logistics infrastructures.
Fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters are embarked on naval units that have a hangar and flight deck, on naval amphibious assault units and on aircraft carriers. Cavour, which served as the backdrop to the celebration of the bond between Moto Guzzi , Marina Militare, is a STOVL (Short Take Off and Vertical Landing) aircraft carrier, built by Fincantieri and entered into service in 2009. It is 244 meters long with a 220 meter take-off runway and is one of the major technological investments of the national defense industry system.
The Italian Naval Aviation has been operating in the most important international operations since the 1980s, as mentioned.
