These are sobering data that have been released by THE, a Generali Italia company specialized in legal protection. The statistic examines the number of accidents per capita by city and region and there is no shortage of surprises.

Lombardy, we're not there

With one accident for every 1.305 inhabitants, Lombardy is in fourth place in the ranking of the regions with the highest density of motorcycle accidents. Leading the way in this not exactly flattering ranking is Milan with one accident for every 733 inhabitants which is also ninth place nationally. Not even Bergamo is laughing. The Orobic town is in fact the Lombardy province with the highest frequency of accidents involving fifty-year-olds: one for every 3.096 inhabitants which is 17th place overall in Italy, although with an overall decrease in accidents in the last nine years of 48%. Cremona (1 accident for every 1.414 residents) is the most dangerous province in Lombardy for those traveling by bicycle, the eighth at a national level.

The spiegazione dell'esperto

Roberto Grasso, administrator and general manager of DAS, intervened to explain this phenomenon: “In recent years, people's habits and mobility needs have changed and consequently so have the associated risks. Unfortunately, accidents are not always connected to driving one's own vehicles; one can often find oneself involved in unpleasant events even with rental cars, using car sharing, proceeding on foot, by bicycle, by motorbike or on public transport. If you travel abroad the risks multiply, the regulations and sanctions provided for in case of violations are different in each country and problems related to the foreign language also arise". "They are a lot – continues Grasso – the innovations that we have introduced in the 'DAS on the move' policy, a coverage that is no longer bound by the car's license plate, but follows the person (or the policyholder's entire family unit), wherever they may be. In addition to ensuring defense in criminal proceedings arising from charges of driving while intoxicated without blood alcohol limits, we have extended coverage to the entire world and increased the maximum limit to 100.000 euros per accident, in order to guarantee all legal assistance and expert opinion possible at different levels of judgment even for the longest and most difficult cases".
It is possible to request the intervention of DAS not only in the case in which one suffers or causes an accident or has to defend oneself in criminal proceedings (see the tightening of penalties linked to the new crimes of road homicide and serious or very serious road injuries), but also when you have to assert your reasons against those who have not carried out repairs on your vehicle in a workmanlike manner. In the event of points being deducted from the driving licence, "DAS in Movimento" ensures reimbursement of the costs of regaining possession of the driving license or of attending the driving school. The insurance also provides a daily allowance for the days of withdrawal or suspension of the license, in the event that the illegality of the measure is demonstrated. Finally, the guarantees of the policy also include coverage of the costs of towing the damaged vehicle and those for obtaining a duplicate of the license plate, documents, including the driving licence, and for re-registering the vehicle.
