Michelin Road 6 and Road 6 GT: the new tires designed for naked and touring bikes [PHOTO]

A new tread setting

The range Michelin Road 6 it is made up of new tires designed to transmit high performance in terms of durability, grip and comfort with naked bikes, maxi road enduros, sport touring and GT motorbikes. Together with the Michelin Road 6 tyres, a new range appears Michelin Road 6GT defined for grand touring models.

The new Michelin Road 6 and Road 6 GT proposal

There is an improvement in grip and durability compared to the range road 5. Specifically, through the use of technologies defined by the engineers of the Michelin Research and Development centres, the improvement in wet grip is of the 15% (based on internal tests carried out on the Fontange track) and the increase in duration 10% (considering the comparison between the Michelin Road 6 and Road 5 ranges, according to an independent test on public roads carried out by DEKRA Narbonne).
These improvements are based on a new tread design, along with advances in raw materials and an optimized architecture.

The new range road 6 follows a story that began with the first Road road proposal in 2002.
An interesting new aspect for the range is the adoption of the MIchelin Premium Touch Design in the definition of the sidewalls of the Michelin Road 6. A technology which, through the absorption of light via a micro-geometry on the sidewalls of the tyre, favors a certain contrast and an elegant appearance, combined with the same look as the motorbike.
Speaking of the materials used, there is a 100% silica compound associated with the technology Michelin Silica, for level grip in low temperature conditions and on damp surfaces, also taking into account the durability of the tyres. The setting is also highlighted Michelin 2CT+ (2 Compound Technology), an aspect that concerns the different parts of the tread, optimized for the different performance characteristics. The lower layer with the more consistent compound preserves rigidity during cornering phases, while the softer upper layer in contact with the asphalt offers high grip and mileage on dry and wet roads. On a structural level, the Michelin Radial features 90-degree top plies that support a wide footprint on the ground for high levels of straight-line and cornering grip. The sidewalls of the new generation of Radial Overall, this technology offers optimized handling and reactivity to support dynamism in safety.

Then one Michelin Aramid Shield technology, essentially a high-density, stiffer tire casing, supporting handling and feel. The aramid fabric resists centrifugal forces resulting from speed, providing stability. A low weight is also highlighted.
The tread is characterized by an optimized ratio of solids and voids corresponding to the 14% (the ratio of grooves to rubber), supporting grip in wet and dry conditions. A ratio that does not vary on curves, according to the information. New grooves and inclinations of the sipes are also highlighted, with elongated ends depending on the grip on the road surface. So we also note a patented technology Michelin Water EverGrip referring to the sipes, developed by the manufacturer to provide high levels of grip on wet surfaces. The design of these slats changes, opening up as wear progresses, as indicated.
