Michelin Anakee Adventure: a new tire dedicated to road enduros

For the official presentation of the new tire called “Anakee Adventure”, Michelin chooses the refined LUME restaurant in via Watt in Milan as the setting, exactly one week before the start of EICMA

Under the supervision of the press office manager Josephine Di Chiara, PR Specialist Fabio Salomone introduces us to the new tire from Michelin which will be available at authorized dealers starting from January 2019 (except for some sizes expected to arrive in May)

The Anakee Adventure represents an important innovation because it is aimed at a constantly evolving market. In fact, in Europe, the tire market in the Enduro road segment has recorded an increase of 28% in the last 5 years, giving clear signs of ferment. To confirm this, just think that the best-selling motorcycles in Europe always belong to the road enduro category and see the BMW R1200GS (now replaced by the 1250) in first place, followed closely by the Honda Africa Twin and KTM 1090 Adventure. The Italian market showed a similar trend to the European one, reaching +28%, while the ranking of registered vehicles still sees the BMW GS in first position followed by Honda Africa Twin, Yamaha Tracer 900, R1200 GS Adventure and Benelli TRK502.

Balance and performance are the dictates for the new Michelin Anakee Adventure which does not represent a simple evolution of its predecessor but rather a new tire in terms of construction, materials used and obviously as regards the tread sculpture which is innovative from the first glance. If the Anakee III was intended for 90% road and 10% dirt use, the successor stands at 80 and 20 respectively.

Even if the new Anakee immediately appears more contoured, thanks to a specific graphic it is clear that the front wheel has an optimized design based on the inclination: in fact, with the bike upright, the new tire has greater contact with the ground than the Anakee III precisely to give more stability in straight lines and at high speeds. When you go downhill, however, the rate of carving increases as well as the wet grip increases throughout the "medium inclination" range, i.e. those most used by the motorcyclist when he finds himself riding on damp or slippery terrain.

The rear has a more pronounced and even more knobby structure, favoring traction on dirt roads and promoting self-cleaning and water drainage. Looking closely at the tyre, it is easy to notice some new "bridges" between the blocks themselves (derived from the more technical Anakee Wild), aimed at promoting the stability of the motorbike when cornering and generating less torsion and movement of the parts when subjected to the stress of the accelerator.

The new silica compound equals greater grip on any surface, always maintaining an excellent level of grip. The front uses a dual-compound compound called 2CT while the rear always uses a dual compound but in a different way: the more rigid central part goes deep down to the edges which, on the surface, are covered with a softer compound. This innovative choice means that the "foundations" of the rear tire are solid, while the softer surface allows you to be more daring even on slippery surfaces.

Handling, wet grip and effectiveness on dirt are the parameters on which the technicians worked the most; the new Anakee Adventure (80/20) is positioned - within the Michelin offer for the Trail category - between the Road 5 Trail (100 road/0 off road) and the more specific Anakee Wild (50/50).

The tire will be original equipment on the "target" vehicles which once again include the timeless BMW GS, Honda Africa Twin, Yamaha Super Ténéré, Suzuki V-Strom, Moto Guzzi V85TT and Triumph Tiger 1200. We remind you that the Anakee Adventure, will be marked M+S. The Anakeen III will continue to dress its sisters with smaller displacements.
