Metzeler Tourance Next 2 and Karoo 4: new tires in the proposal for the on/off segmentMetzeler Tourance Next 2 and Karoo 4: new tires in the proposal for the on/off segment

Two new tires introduced Metzeler with the expansion of as many product ranges to propose functional solutions that meet the needs of enthusiasts of exploration on two wheels. The new ones Tourance Next 2 e Karoo 4 are the interesting innovations in the on/off segment, developed for the new models of Adventure and maxi enduro motorcycles.

A varied overview

The specialist offers a varied choice for the on/off sector, ranging between seven products to cover mountain sections, for example by adopting a super sports bike Sportec M9RR or the sandier routes with Karoo Extreme.
News like the aforementioned Sportec M9RR, Or the Roadtec 01 SE and those already reported Tourance Next 2 e Karoo 4.
For typical supersport and Sport Touring performance, the Sportec M9 RR and Roadtec 01 SE compounds are worth mentioning on the Adventure bike front, therefore Tourance Next 2 and Karoo 4 represent new perspectives in the on/off segment, thinking in particular of the latest generation models and to driving assistance solutions.

Metzeler Tourance Next 2

A tire developed for those enthusiasts who undertake long journeys or weekend excursions, offering performance and comfort.
Looking at the tread, the features of the tire stand out pi greek (π), which in addition to being identifiable are functional. The longitudinal grooves in the central part, the upper area of the pi, have other grooves to promote greater stability and more uniform wear, as well as sharpening lateral thrust when off-road.
Patented technology has been associated with the design Dymatec, characterized by a methodology designed to preserve the functional geometries of the blocks and the performance of the tyre. Thanks to this technology Dynamic Mold Angle Technology, the position of the notch along the surface of the tread and the different bend angle in which it is involved, determines the specific angle of the walls of the notch, managing in the best way the dynamic stresses linked to on/off use to favor a uniform consumption.

Another interesting aspect of the front tire is the irregular repetition of the steps of the tread pattern (Multi-Pitch Knob Layout), system which places blocks of compound of various sizes in contact with the asphalt, offering smoothness in rolling and acoustic comfort, as indicated.
A high-silica compound (85%) with functionalized polymers (SBR) is introduced on the tread band of the front tire which accentuates wet grip and stability, offering a reduction in braking distance of over 10% compared to the previous one. Tourance Next (Internal wet braking test performed on BMW R 1250 GS MY 2020 at a speed of 85 km/h with an ambient temperature of 25°C) and stability in various load conditions.
Moving on to the rear tire of the Tourance Next 2, the central band features the same compound as the front, while the shoulder ones are full-silica and oriented towards wet conditions and flat grip. For certain sizes, an arrangement of the tread compounds based on a pattern is noted Postcode&Base, while for others a new patented Hyperbase scheme.

For the Cap&Base scheme, the two side bands in soft compound, keeping in mind the grip when cornering, are overlapped with a layer of more consistent compound which ensures constant performance and thermal balance.
While in the scheme Hyperbase the side bands and the central compound are supported by a base formulated with a full-carbon-black compound, with dynamic and thermal stability in mind, as indicated.
In short, the new Metzeler Tourance Next 2 prospect: precise control of the vehicle at different lean angles, given a radial structure with zero degree steel belt and Interact technology; comfort and safety even under full load conditions; high response when braking, on wet surfaces and when braking given an innovative formulation of the compounds with liquid polymers and their arrangement, using Metzeler Hyperbase technology, for braking distances 1,5 meters shorter than the predecessor Tourance Next (internal test wet braking performed with BMW R 1250 GS MY 2020 at a speed of 85km/h and with an ambient temperature of 25°C); finally, durable performance thanks to a design methodology designed to preserve the functional geometries of the blocks and performance over time.

Metzeler Karoo 4

After Karoo 3, this is the latest generation of products developed for on/off use. The new Karoo 4 it is characterized by a patented tread design that raises the performance levels of the tire on the road and on various types of dirt terrain. The specialists worked to refine the riding neutrality and behavior in the wet in particular, considering a knobby tread design to manage lean angles even in wet conditions. Going off-road, the tire accentuates the off-road performance level, especially on soft and clayey surfaces such as sand and mud.

The tire will be available starting from March 2022 in the measures:
