“It is undeniable that two wheels are the means of transport of the year: for four months, in fact, the motorized market has continued to grow together with a renewed desire among Italians, which was already very promising before the lockdown. Not just bikes, for which we expect 2020 to close with over 2 million units sold, but also motorbikes, scooters and mopeds are increasingly being chosen as an individual mobility solution and as a usable tool for leisure and entertainment", the comment by Paolo Magri, president of ANCMA (National Association of Motorcycles and Accessories).
Looking back at the data and considering the first nine months, we note a gradual recovery in volumes from the previous one lockdown. The total registered is: 184.178 vehicles, with losses compared to the same period of 2019 of 7,15%. Speaking of scooters, 105.622 vehicles were registered with a loss of 5,81%. While moving on to motorbikes, there is a percentage drop corresponding to 8,9% compared to 2019, calculating 78.556 registrations. The decrease in mopeds was more limited, corresponding to 1,64% and 14.973 vehicles marketed. Overall, taking into account the first nine months of 2020, a total of 199.151 vehicles were sold, with a decrease corresponding to 6,76%.
A September There were 50 vehicles registered with a displacement greater than 23.646 cc, recording the aforementioned 30% increase compared to September 2019. Scooters were the protagonists with 14.947 sales and a growth of 32,85%. The progress of motorbikes was also good with 8.699 registrations and an increase of 25,54%. Just as interesting is the progress of mopeds with 2.281 vehicles and an increase of 29,16%. In general, noting registrations and mopeds, a growth of 30% and 25.927 units entered.
Evaluating the prospect for displacement, among scooters the 125 cc remain at the top with 42.330 vehicles and a decrease of 2%. Sharper decline for the 300-500 cc displacements which have been affected by a 12% decline since the beginning of the year with 36.463 vehicles. In succession the 150-250 cc displacements with 17.815 vehicles and a decrease of 3,2%. The outlook for maxi scooters over 500 cc was also negative, with 9.014 vehicles and a decrease of 0,2%.
Moving on to motorcycles, despite an annual decrease of 22,8%, the 800-1000 cc engine sizes still stand out with 18.805 vehicles. This is followed by displacements over 1.000 cc with 18.201 units and a decrease of 10,5%, then 300-600 cc motorbikes with 14.937 vehicles and a decrease of 2,44%, 650-750 displacements with 14.407 vehicles and an increase of 2,84%, specimens up to 125 cc with 9.959 vehicles and -0,87% compared to last year, finally the 150-250 cc displacements with 2.247 units and a positive value of 3,97%.
In the statement for segments naked cars still stand out with 31.102 units and a decrease of 6%. This is followed by enduros with 27.967 vehicles and a drop of 9%, touring motorbikes with 9.375 vehicles and a drop of 11,8%, customs with 3.676 bikes and -17,2%, sports bikes with 3.507 units and -10,8 .2.813%, then supermotard and trials with 13,2 vehicles and -XNUMX%, always reporting the data.
