Motorcycle market, May is positive

Sales of vehicles with a displacement of more than 50cc achieved a satisfactory result in May, with 28.630 registrations and an increase of +13,9%. In particular, motorbikes recorded 11.165 pieces and +11,8%; while scooters with higher volumes totaled 17.465 units and accelerated by +15,3%. Sales of the fifties remain in difficulty with 2.311 registrations equal to -8,1%. May accounts for around 13% of sales for the whole year.

The progressive total from January to May totals 95.612 registrations (vehicles over 50cc) equal to +2,4%, of which 53.409 scooters equal to +1,8% and 42.203 motorbikes with +3,1%. The "fifties" show the most deficient trend with 8.844 units and -5%. The analysis by displacement sees the 300-500cc segment in first place with 18.591 scooters and a +7,9%.

The 125cc follows with 17.657 vehicles equal to -2,9%; the third sector in terms of volumes is represented by 150-250cc with 12.220 pieces equal to +0,6%. Maxi scooters over 500cc were essentially stable, with 4.941 registrations and a +1,4%.
In the motorcycle sector, the leadership of the 800-1000cc is confirmed with 13.767 units equal to +3,8%; followed by vehicles over 1000cc with 12.298 units equal to +4,5%. Medium displacements between 600 and 750cc rise with 7.802 motorbikes and a +8,2%. The 201-500cc models fell with 4.963 units equal to -10%. Finally, the 125cc with 2.995 bikes show good liveliness with an increase of +9,4%.

The performance of the segments rewards the naked ones with 15.429 sales equal to +10,9%; Followed by road enduros with 13.300 units and -4,5%. In third place were touring motorbikes with 6.433 pieces and +13,4%; then the custom ones with 2.791 bikes and a -7,7%. Recovery for sports bikes with 2.393 motorbikes and a +6,8%; finally supermotards in sharp decline with 1.283 sales and -17,4%. Overall, the total 2-wheel market (registrations of scooters and motorbikes over 50cc plus registrations of 50cc) in the first 5 months of 2017 reached 104.456 units sold, equal to +1,7% compared to the same period last year.
