Dopo un 2023 with very high level results, 2024 opened with a slight decline for the motorcycle market in Italy. In fact, the month of January recorded -1,1% in registrations, compared to the beginning of last year. Especially mopeds and the electricity market are in difficulty, with almost -60%.

Going into more detail, the month of January stopped at 21.080 units sold in our country. The differences between the segments are minimal, with the motorcycle which register 9.370 vehicles and fall by 1,2%, while the scooter they registered 10.699 units, essentially the same as in 2023 (-0,23%). The anxiety of the more evident mopeds. Which left 100 units on the ground compared to the first month of 2023, with 1.011 vehicles put on the road and a decrease of 9%.

As for the bands displacement, scooters up to 26,12cc in displacement recorded an increase of 125% and motorbikes from 501 to 750 cc increased (+30,63%), while all other displacements recorded a negative figure.

Electrical problems

As we have seen already also in the car world, one reason for the decline is linked to the crisis in the electricity market. The month ended with only 356 units sold, equal to a drop of 58,99% on January 2023. The worst performance is that of scooters, which recorded a loss of 65,46 percentage points and 201 registered vehicles. This month pays for the delay in the reactivation of the incentive platform, which took place on January 23rd, we will see if February marks a relaunch.
