Motorcycle Market – In the month of July, registrations (two-wheel motorized vehicles with a displacement greater than 50cc) recorded a decrease with a total of 22.368 vehicles and a -7,7% compared to July 2015. The scooter sector, numerically more important, totaled 14.827 units and recorded a -11,7%. Motorcycles produced 7.541 units and a +1,2%. The 50cc undergoes a trend reversal, with 3.003 registrations in the month of July, -14,8% compared to the same period last year. July accounts for over 13% of the total sold in the year.

In the first seven months of 2016, the Italian motorized two-wheeler market developed 138.883 registrations with an increase of +11,4% compared to the same period last year. Scooters reached 81.865 units and marked a +6,9%, while motorbikes showed an even more dynamic trend with 57.017 units, equal to +18,6%. In the same period, mopeds (motorcycles and 50cc scooters) fell slightly with 15.044 registrations, equal to -2,5%.

From January to July 2016, a total of 153.927 motorized two-wheelers were sold in Italy (registrations + 50cc), with an increase in volumes of +9,8% compared to the first 7 months of last year. 125cc scooters - which can also be driven with a B car license - are confirmed as the main sector, with 29.386 vehicles and a +10,2% compared to last year. 300-500cc scooters follow with 26.323 units and +5,8%. The growth of the 150-250cc models was more limited with 19.159 units and a +3,5%. The performance of maxi-scooters over 500cc was good with 6.997 registrations and a +6,5% compared to the same period of 2015.

The motorcycle sector always presents a scenario with a plus sign: it ranges from the most important segment of motorcycles between 800 and 1000cc in strong acceleration with 17.825 units and a +21,8%. Followed by over 1.000cc with 16.386 motorcycles and a +10,1%. The medium displacements, between 650 and 750cc, sold 10.005 units equal to +10,8%; while the 300-600cc totaled 6.884 pieces equal to +38,9%. In the small displacement models, the 150 to 250cc models achieved 1.619 sales with an increase of +9%, while the recovery of the 125cc models was very lively, with 4.299 bikes recording an increase of +38,5%.

From the analysis of the motorcycle segments, the leadership of the naked emerges with 20.302 sales and a +20,7%, followed by the road enduros with 18.688 units and a significant +28,4%. Touring bikes with 6.680 units achieved only a +2,1%, while customs with 5.357 pieces grew by +12,8%. A few dozen units less for the sports bikes with 3.057 bikes and -1,8%, unlike the supermotards which with 2.156 bikes accelerate by +39,1%.
