They amount to 1,713 million the units of bicycles ed e-bike sold in 2019, essentially an increase in 7% compared to what was recorded in the previous year, considering an increase of 13% regarding e-bikes only “going from 173 to 195 thousand pieces sold”. Data taken from a press release by Confindustria ANCMA. The response to traditional bicycles was also good, unlike previous years, in particular city and trekking with positive numbers considering production and exports, as emerged.

The Italian market, considering the sale, is valid about 1,35 billion the current state. The only declines in the import of pedal-assisted bicycles, taking into account the anti-dumping duties against unfair competition from abroad, bringing production back to Europe and specifically to Italy.
The President of Confindustria ANCMA, Paul Magri, based on the data processed by the association, underlined broad development scenarios for the bicycle sector “and consequently this becomes a huge opportunity for the companies that ANCMA represents”, he added on the occasion. A follow-up is therefore hoped for, also involving infrastructure, with an approach to sustainable mobility also linked to smarter cities, together with the various positive factors deriving from the use of bicycles or e-bikes.
But concerns also emerge related to ideas about a simply sporting use of the same bicycle in Italy, while keeping in mind the great tradition of sector specialists and unforgettable champions. Still highlighting factors that disadvantage the urban use of these vehicles, strongly asking “high attention for this vehicle, from use, to sale, to manufacturing, because it is a protagonist in this delicate and very complicated period of Coronavirus”. A means that, in addition to the benefits already mentioned, allows us to maintain safe distances in this difficult moment.
Both e-bikes and bicycles are means of individual and sustainable mobility, becoming important mobility tools in cities, with an increasingly significant percentage. Vehicles not only useful for moving around, but also functional for tackling simple daily journeys. Above all, the growth of the e-bike market is dynamic, as mentioned, which covers all segments involving the bicycles themselves, thanks to the possibility of covering greater distances and at higher speeds, thanks to the support of the electric component.
The reasons for this renewed interest in cycling are many, including a greater awareness of the effects of climate change and the political scenarios themselves, in a constantly evolving society.
