BMW G310GS – The acronym GS for BMW Motorrad represents that point of reference, that absolute certainty that every brand would like to have: by purchasing a GS you are sure to bring home a reliable, functional, robust product highly guaranteed by years of experience and development. Taking advantage of its image and its notoriety, the Bavarian company has decided to expand the GS family to make room for another dynamic member, transferring all its values and characteristics to a new entry in the segment of motorcycles under 500 cc, bringing with it the typical aspirations of premium motorcycle.

La BMW G 310 GS is “Genuine”

This is how BMW defines its new creation, underlining the contemporaneity of this project and the maturity and versatility that this product has to offer. Respecting the traditions of the GS family, it can be quick and agile in traffic but also robust and practical when asked to abandon city asphalt in favor of more treacherous terrain. PIt is precisely this genetic inheritance from its ancestors that allows it to forcefully enter a totally new segment for BMW, with the experience and confidence of someone who knows that it can become an icon again.

Typical GS design

Thanks to its characteristic windscreen, high mudguard, streamlined line and short, high tail, the G 310 GS presents those typical traits of its bigger sisters, making it recognizable even to an untrained eye. Practicality on daily commutes and city slaloms is guaranteed by the short wheelbase and compact proportions, thanks to optimal engine installation geometry. The 19-inch front wheel and long spring travel allow for a typical upright riding position, which translates into high agility and readiness on the road. The entire line is then "lightened" thanks to a short and high tail, which progressively slims down to the license plate holder, giving greater power to the front and balance to the entire silhouette. The finishes, materials and high quality plastics, appropriately combined, recall the construction excellence of the larger displacement GS.

Innovative single-cylinder engine: practical and fun

Already appreciated on the BMW G 310 GS -, the 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine is also repeated on this GS, re-proposing some technical solutions adopted from the S 1000 RR, such as the valve gear. It features four valves and dual camshafts, with electronic fuel injection. It can boast a power of 25 kW (34 HP) at 9.500 rpm. and a maximum torque of 28 Nm at 7.599 rpm, which give it excellent usability and readiness, taking into account the limited empty weight of 169,5 kilograms DIN. Unlike conventional single-cylinder engines, this engine features an unusual backwards-inclined cylinder with the cylinder head rotated 180 degrees, intake at the front and exhaust at the rear, thus being able to generate more power thanks to a direct supply of the fresh air-fuel mixture.

GS ergonomics: perfect for road and light off-road

The riding position of this G 310 GS is relaxed and comfortable, promoting carefree pleasure on the motorbike both on asphalt and on dirt paths and slippery surfaces. As previously mentioned, the reduced weight aids control and handling, especially during more demanding off-road trips. The ergonomic triangle design consisting of handlebars, footpegs and seat ensures excellent control and at the same time provides valid and comfortable feedback from the contact surfaces of the tank and seat. At higher speeds, even the standard windshield relieves the driver's upper body from the force of the wind and ensures a regular flow of air over the helmet.

Tubular bridge frame, upside down fork and long swing arm

Extremely compact, versatile and practical for every situation, the frame allows for agile bends while remaining neutral and predictable at all times. It is able to offer sufficient comfort on longer stretches thanks to its driving stability and its steering precision, immediately establishing a sense of confidence even in less experienced profiles. The suspension is almost similar to that of the G 310 R, using a tubular steel chassis in a spaceframe structure with a bolt-on rear section that combines torsional rigidity and strength. Its long rear swing arm allows it to compensate for pitching and makes reactions to load movements much softer. The upside-down front fork, with 41 mm diameter tubes and steerers made of light alloy, ensure precise and direct steering response.

High level braking system, standard ABS and multifunction instrument cluster

Like all other BMWs, this G 310 GS is also equipped with two-channel ABS on all versions, combined with a high-performance braking system. Thanks to a button, it is possible to deactivate the ABS for off-road enthusiasts. The instrument cluster of the G 310 GS features a large liquid crystal display that offers excellent clarity and a wide range of information.
