Safer, of course, but also more ecological. The European Parliament dictates the rules for the motorbikes of the future. On the one hand it is a question of predicting theAbs mandatory over 51 cc (and no more than 125 cc as initially proposed). On the other hand we try to extend the Euro standard 3 for motorcycles and Euro 4 and Euro 5 for large displacements since 2016. The new regulation that sets the guidelines for manufacturers was approved unanimously by the Internal Market Commission. The purpose is to make it executive in 2014. And it doesn't matter whether it's motorcycles, motorcycles or scooters. The difference that separates them from cars is still too evident.

On the safety front, one piece of data is enough to realize this: two-wheelers represent 2% of traffic on the roads of European Union countries, but they are the cause of 16% of fatal accidents. Therefore, manufacturers are obliged to provide workshops with detailed information on the construction and repair of motorcycles. It's still, more severe sanctions against those who tamper with the engine.

The issue linked to environmental pollution appears a little less dramatic as two wheels are inherently more environmentally friendly than cars as they have smaller engines. However, the number of motorbikes circulating along the roads, 30 million, is so high as to make it necessary to introduce new measures.

Dutch MEP Wim Van De Camp, rapporteur of the report in Strasbourg, explains: “Today motorbikes have become cleaner and safer, these vehicles improve mobility in the city, use less space, consume less energy and have a reduced level of emissions".
