KTM SMT 1290/Supermoto T, the first images of the new touring are online

KTM SMT 1290/Supermoto T – KTM showed the touring version of its 1290 Super Duke R for the first time. Firsts spy images were taken during some tests carried out in Spain this week and are published by the specialized site www.asphaltandrubber.com.

The successor to KTM 990 SMT it will be based on the 1290 Super Duke R platform and will add its own bags, higher suspension, a larger fairing and a larger windshield. Furthermore, it will have a new, higher headlight assembly and a more upright driving position. The engine will be identical to that of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, a 1301cc V-twin, capable of delivering 180 CV of power.

Although it was advertised under the nickname 'The Beast', the KTM 1290 Super Duke R has been recognized as a street bike that can be used by everyone, with a package of sophisticated technology, including Bosch traction control and anti-wheelie system. This should mean that KTM won't have to tackle too much development work to make this touring version by 2016.

La KTM SMT 1290/Supermoto T, as it will presumably be called, could be KTM's answer to two such competitors BMW e Ducati, and the attempt to enter the segment in a deep and constant way sport/touring/adventure. According to many, the KTM SMT 1290/Supermoto T, combined with some important details relating to touring comfort, could really give the new one a run for its money. BMW S1000XR or the new one Ducati Multistrada 1200.
