KTM Freeride E, E-SX and E-XC arrive in Europe

It was presented at EICMA 2011

After a long period of testing the KTM Freeride E will finally land on the market. The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer has in fact announced two versions of the electric off-road bike for 2015.
Revealed for the first time at the EICMA in Milan in 2011 the KTM Freeride E underwent many off-road tests around Europe and now, after this prolonged development period, KTM will be able to offer its customers two models, the motocross Freeride E-SX and street-legal enduro E-XC, which have substantially identical characteristics.

“We are really excited to finally see this ultra-innovative motorcycle on the market. The feedback from our E-Parks, located across Europe, has been very positive; this is a quality product that we hope to see on many tracks and roads in the near future. KTM is very committed to this project, and although the Freeride E is already a complete motorcycle, this is only the beginning of our involvement in E-Mobility,” said Thomas Kuttruf, KTM PR Manager.

Both models KTM Freeride E they will be powered by synchronous electric motors claiming a maximum output of 21,5PS, which KTM guarantees is similar to petrol engines of the same size, with the engine control unit cooling the Freeride E water powertrain to maintain the optimal performance.

Furthermore, the engine is powered by a die-cast aluminum control unit that contains 360 lithium-ion battery cells with a total capacity of 2600 Wh, a battery that, according to KTM, should provide enough energy for an hour of driving, but which is can be easily replaced with a powerpack unit which is located under the seat and can be easily accessed by loosening four bolts. According to data provided by Ktm, the control unit can obtain a complete charge in 80 minutes, while 50 minutes will be sufficient for an 80% charge.

With the strengthening of the electrical part the Ktm Freeride E uses a single gear and, as there is no need for a clutch or gear lever, the Freeride E models have no foot controls and have both the front and rear brakes controlled by hand levers.
The frame includes nickel chromium molybdenum steel, aluminum and polyamide fiber. The prices of KTM Freeride E-SX 2015 starts from 10.995 euros including taxes, while the Freeride E-XC it is available starting from 11.295 euros.
