Equipped with an LC8c 890 engine

One of the brand's iconic models returns KTM. The new 890 SMT it is recognizable by its taut and streamlined design, a motorbike designed to be agile and spirited, animated by a LC8c 890 engine. An interesting symbiosis between Supermoto and Touring.

A technological model

To test the qualities of the new one KTM 890 SMT, on a stretch of Sardinia, was the former AMA Superbike and Supermoto rider and three-time winner at Pikes Peak, Chris Fillmore.
From an aesthetic point of view, the 890 SMT is characterized by a taut and recognizable profile, the smoked windscreen, a double mudguard with splash guard extending over the fork legs and the new design of the ergonomically functional 15,8 liter tank stand out .
The saddle developed in a single piece is placed at 860 millimeters in height and, given its compact dimensions, facilitates movements in different situations, as communicated.
Like the model introduced in 2010, this one also offers a convergence between comfort and performance, considering a chassis that includes adjustable WP suspensions and refined electronics as well as a purposeful twin-cylinder heart to which is added a functional weight-power ratio.
The bike is equipped with a 5-inch TFT instrument cluster, developed in mineral glass with anti-glare and scratch-resistant optical bonding. A menu system with infographics allows for customization. Speaking of connectivity, through the KTMconnect app it is possible to manage phone calls and the music playlist from the buttons on the control block on the left.
The electronic part includes driving assistance systems, including three standard riding modes to choose from RAIN, STREET e SPORTS, as well as an optional mode TRACK which allows you to select three-level throttle response and 10-level traction control. Traction Control and ABS Cornering are managed by a 6D inertial platform.
Among the different KTM PowerParts accessories heated grips are mentioned and it is possible to use software to adjust the motor torque in the release phase (MSR). Cruise Control and the QUICKSHIFTER+ system are also optional, while TRACK PACK and TECH PACK electronic packages are also offered to further accentuate the features of the model.

Technical aspects

The new KTM 890 SMT it is made around a chrome-molybdenum steel frame and the geometry of the chassis loaded on the front, compared to the 890 Adventure model with which it shares the engine, is designed to demonstrate marked agility in mixed terrain as well as transmitting stability in progression, thanks even at the most inclined positioning of the mono-shock absorber. A choice which, in addition to containing the height of the saddle and allowing the adoption of a longer swingarm, favors a more active riding position. By working on the risers, you can then move the handlebar forwards or backwards by 30 mm.
The suspension part is made up of adjustable WP APEX solutions: an upside down fork from 43 mm with open cartridge e 180 mm of travel, as in the case of the mono-shock absorber. The braking system is made up of a pair of four-piston radial front calipers combined with 320 mm discs, while at the rear there is a two-piston caliper flanked by a 260 mm disc. It is possible to select a Supermoto ABS mode, which excludes anti-lock on the rear wheel, while still guaranteeing safety.
The wheels are from 17 inches and are fitted with Michelin PowerGP tires selected for their specifications.
The character of the model is linked to the qualities of a parallel twin LC8c 889 cm³ da 105 horses of power e 100 Nm of torque.
