KTM 450 SMR 2021: a new definition in the Supermoto panorama [PHOTO]

450 cm³, 63 horsepower single-cylinder engine

KTM introduces the new one 450 SMR, a further example of technological vivacity.

The developed frame is made of chrome-molybdenum steel, evaluating flexibility and torsion in view of use on tracks from Supermoto. A consistent chassis is highlighted, linked to a 900 gram aluminum rear subframe. The fork plates, also made of aluminum and CNC milled, have an offset of 16 millimetres. The handlebar is adjustable in three positions.
It employs a WP XACT suspension package with a 48mm air fork, AER technology and 285mm travel, emphasizing separate compression and rebound functions as well as a “mid-valve” damping solution. Also crucial is the die-cast swingarm with possible management of the wheelbase based on traction.
Then mentioned is an adjustable WP XACT monoshock with 266 mm travel and progressive linkage.
The braking system is Brembo, consisting of a front brake with a four-piston radial caliper, radial master cylinder and 310 mm floating disc; while at the back there is a single-piston caliper and a 220 mm disc.
The Alpina tubeless wheels are spoked and measure 16,5 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear, shod with slick Bridgestone tires.

Engine and technique

The engine is single-cylinder 450 cc, like the one that animates the 450 SX-F in the Motocross World Championship and in the AMA Supercross. The 320 gram piston acts in a lightweight aluminum cylinder with a 95 mm bore. Also mentioned are a 44mm Keihin throttle body, mapping, launch control and traction control. The air filter case is specific and the tank can hold seven liters of fuel.
With just over 27 kg of weight, it indicates a power of 63 horses. This heart is placed in the frame keeping in mind the centralization of the masses and the dynamism of the vehicle. The positioning of the crankshaft is also strategic for handling. The connecting rod allows the maintenance intervals to be increased to 100 hours, as indicated.
A heart connected to a five-speed gearbox developed by Pankl Racing Systems to be added to a sensor and specific mapping for each ratio. Also featured is a new Suter slipper clutch.
Among the interesting aspects of the model, a double aluminum radiator stands out, again located in such a way as to maximize the centralization of weights.
