The Austrian specialist WP Suspension proposes new components based on the most recent ones KTM 1290 Super Duke R e 890 Duke. In the list: a new one APEX PRO 7746 shock absorber; theAPEX PRO 7117 steering damper and APEX PRO 7500 fork cartridge. Ideas designed to refine the performance of the new naked bikes on road and track.

The new “Beast”

Character and performance, combined with a sleek line and sophisticated technical solutions. The new KTM 1290 Super Duke R it is equipped with a redefined trellis frame in chrome-molybdenum steel, with three times greater torsional rigidity than previous generations, thanks also to the presence of the same engine. There is also a new rear subframe made of composite material with aluminum and carbon, therefore a WP APEX suspension system and a more extended single-sided rear swingarm positioned closer to the sprocket, with a geometry designed to maximize grip. Among other aspects: LED headlights, tilt-manageable 5-inch TFT screen instruments, as well as various devices such as an inertial platform and 6D lean sensor, redefined riding modes (Rain, Street, Sport and an optional Track ) and a further “Performance mode” option. Power comes from a powerful four-stroke twin-cylinder LC8 V-shaped 75° e 1.301 cc that develops 180 horses of power and a pair of 140 Nm tied to a six-speed gearbox. A thrust to be compared to a dry weight of 189 kg.

The 890 KTM 2020 Duke R

A mid-sized naked anticipated with the expression “super scalpel”, characterized by a powder-coated frame in chrome-molybdenum steel, is linked to the aforementioned engine, which appears as a structural element. Among the connotative aspects we also mention a low and flat handlebar, rear footrests, a chassis that rests on suspension WP APEX manageable, therefore a Brembo braking system with Stylema® calipers and MCS pump. The electronic part is also interesting with an inertial platform and 6D bend sensor, as reported. The chassis appears streamlined, in symbiosis with the shaped, aerodynamic, sharp superstructures and the liveliness of the engine itself. The seat height amounts to 834 millimetres. The heart LC8c da 890 cc develops 121 horses e 99 Nm of torque, considering a dry weight of 166 kg.

The WP APEX PRO 7746 shock absorber

The new shock absorber is linked to technological experience WP in motorsport. A new system tailor-made for the aforementioned examples KTM. A lighter weight and adaptability to various situations are highlighted, through separate adjustment of high and low speed compression and rebound management. The peculiar Big Valve technology allows the suspension to offer precise response and appropriate feedback when driving. The internal "return spring" is functional for maximizing braking stability, therefore a nitrogen tank is designed to benefit constant performance. The list price to the public (VAT included) for the 2020 models of KTM 1290 Super Duke R and KTM 890 Duke R is 1.555 euros, following the information.

WP APEX PRO 7117 steering damper

Proposed for the new one KTM 1290 Super Duke R it is the result of continuous feedback from use on the track and in Supersport competitions. Damping can be managed in 30 click and allows the driver to adapt to different conditions on the track. Handlebar kickbacks and vibrations are mitigated, still considering the indications.
A solution therefore designed for use on the track, with damping adjustable in 30 clicks directly on the piston, to the benefit of the rather compact dimensions. The piston has a special chrome coating with a reduced friction coefficient. The indicated list price (VAT included) amounts to 349 euros.

WP Apex Pro 7500 cartridge

Introduced as an update to the standard suspension of the aforementioned models, the cartridge is housed inside the standard fork stem. Through CNC components made of milled and anodized aluminium, the weight of the fork appears reduced compared to the standard product and is designed for sporting use. For those enthusiasts who aim for significant performance and stability, connected precisely to the closed cartridge system. The spring action can be individually optimized with compression and rebound damping, which can be managed with the use of standard tools. The public list price (VAT included) is 1.982 euros, again following the indications.
