Design, technological solutions and technical innovation converge in the definition of the new KTM 1290 Super Adventure S.

The motorcycle

An overall refined example, keeping in mind the centralization and lowering of the masses and an evolved chassis improving weight distribution and agility.
The steering head has been moved back by 15 millimeters compared to the previous version and the engine repositioned inside the frame. The open trellis swingarm has been lengthened for stability and traction. The rear subframe is also new with revised dimensions, reducing the height of the saddle, just as the fuel tank is innovative 23 liters with “key less” refueling cap and superstructures that underline the character of the example. The position of the handlebars and levers can be customized, optimizing triangulation. The new saddle, developed in two parts, includes a height-adjustable rider seat 20 mm.

Also highlighted is the aerodynamic protection with a new fairing refined in the wind tunnel equipped with an adjustable windshield and considering the same superstructures as the tank, which according to the indications divert the air and water from the legs.
The new instrumentation is included in a large 7 inch TFT display, managing the different settings through this. The instrument panel is present above a renovated glove compartment which also includes a USB charging socket. The interaction takes place via redefined handlebar blocks and the Connectivity Unit is also new which allows you to pair the smartphone via Bluetooth, managing incoming phone calls, the music play list and navigation (for a fee) through the KTM MY RIDE app, as indicated.

Among the new features proposed by WP, we highlight a Suspension PRO package, a package of additional settings (for a fee) which, together with the three settings of the standard hydraulic damping, Comfort, Street and Sport, also includes an Advance mode, which allows fine customization of the behavior of the fork and monoshock, the Auto mode which automatically adjusts the behavior of the suspension based on the rider's riding style and the terrain and the Offroad mode for riding off-road with an optimized setting. Among the options included in the PRO package there is also the possibility of managing the "anti-dive" function by recalling or deactivating it as desired, of adjusting the mono preload on 10 levels or choosing between three pre-set options High, Standard and Low, as reported.

Functional technology

Among the main innovations is a ACC system (Adaptive Cruise Control), defined in collaboration with Bosch, which uses a radar located under the front headlight to automatically adjust the distance to the vehicles in front. The safety distance can be set in five levels via the new handlebar block. Just as other innovations regarding the control of the are indicated cornering-ABS,ABS Offroad and Traction control, managed by Motorcycle Stability Control sensitive to the lean angle, developed in collaboration with Bosch. The new 6D inertial platform features two different control devices, one for rear wheel slip and the other for calculating the lean angle.

The inertial platform takes care of the rider's behavior and manages the new and refined WP APEX suspension with Semi-Active Technology (SAT), with new electromagnetic valves that constantly control the oil flows inside the fork and monoshock.
The traction control has also been updated, making it less invasive than the previous model, it is now possible to install the driving mode as an optional Rally, which is added to the standard riding modes Rain , Street, Sport e Offroad.
For enthusiasts it is also possible to purchase the Tech Pack paid package which includes the Rally Pack with Rally riding mode (which allows you to adjust the intervention of the traction control on nine levels), the Suspension PRO Package, the Quickshifter+, the adjustment of the engine torque in the release phase (Motor Slip Regulation), Hill Hold Control to facilitate new hill starts and the adaptive brake light in the event of emergency braking. The Rally Pack and Suspension PRO package can be purchased separately, as indicated.

Motor

The heart is one LC8 75° V-twin da 1.301 cc approved Euro 5. An engine with double exhaust manifold with a renewed design, combined with a tailpipe with a redefined appearance. An advanced gearbox made by Pankl is also noteworthy and allows faster and more precise gear changes, especially when using the optional Quickshifter+.

Also highlighted are new pistons and cooling system, with a water/oil exchanger and two radiators positioned laterally, which divert heat from the legs and facilitate the extraction of air around the engine. Maintenance intervals are scheduled every 15.000 km. Developed a power of 160 horses e 138 Nm of torque, with a weight 1,6 kg less than the previous version, taking into account a new oil circuit and more compact engine crankcases.
