The new KTM 1290 Super Adventure R represents another expressive form of exploratory dynamism. A concept designed to tackle the most challenging routes and delve into every direction, considering the innovations and the design redefinition of the model.

Adventurer nature and technological solutions

An example designed to be intuitive and agile, equipped with magnetic shades and graphics, front fairing, handlebars, adjustable levers and footrests, headlight unit LED with daylight and new Bridgestone tires specific for riding on off-road sections, linked to ALPINA aluminum spoked wheels that can accommodate tubeless tires with O-ring seal on the spoke nipples. Among the aspects highlighted from an ergonomic point of view are the new superstructures, containing the fuel as low as possible in the tank in order to achieve a lower center of gravity and therefore functional dynamic sensitivity.

Together with the Rain, Street, Sport and Offroad modes, the optional Rally mode allows you to set the accelerator response on three levels and select one of the nine levels of rear wheel slip, thinking of motorcyclists who prefer a more incisive off-road character. The changes can all be viewed via a new instrument panel TFT da seven inches associated with a new Connectivity Unit. The large screen includes quick menus with turn-by-turn directions suggested by the paid KTM My Ride app.
Refine the functions of the keyless key, considering the KTM Race On technology equipped with safety transponder, then the separate sensors of the tire pressure control system allow precise customization.
Advanced electronic packages are standard, keeping in mind the collaboration with Bosch. The new six-axis inertial platform takes care of the processing of data related to position, behavior and inclination. This determines the degree of intervention of the Traction Control, the release torque regulation (MSR) and the braking stability control (MSC), as well as the Offroad ABS. As needed, assistive devices can be limited or deactivated.

The new KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, like the recent model S, features redefined optional software packages. The Rally Pack includes the aforementioned Rally riding mode, personalized throttle response, nine-level control of rear wheel slip; the Tech Pack includes Quickshifter+, Hill Hold Control, the adaptive brake light and all the functions of the Rally Pack, the regulation of the engine torque in the release phase.

Technology

The chassis itself has evolved, taking into account a weight redistribution defined to accentuate handling and stability. In addition to the redefined superstructures, every section of the model has been thoroughly studied to optimize weight distribution and contact between rider and vehicle. The steering head has been moved back by 15 millimetres, the die-cast open trellis swingarm has been lengthened and the engine has been rotated forward by 2°. Also featured is a new fuel tank 23 liters made in three parts, located as mentioned below to facilitate driving dynamics. The rear frame which supports a saddle developed in a single piece, placed at the rear, has also been redefined 880 mm in height, also indicating a storage compartment under the stairs.

Also highlighted are the renewed WP suspensions, tested over thousands of kilometers on the most tortuous European routes and on Californian desert stretches. Together with factors deriving from KTM's experience in the offroad sector, the adoption of WP XPLOR technology is also noteworthy. In relief is an adjustable fork with 48 mm stanchions with a travel of 220 mm and separate damping functions that can be managed via the ring nuts at the head of the stays, then a WP PDS shock absorber with the same travel as the fork and adjustable. Finally, the presence of Brembo four-piston calipers with radial attachment is also highlighted, which allow reduced stopping distances on the road and manageable on off-road routes.

Engine and thrust

Several improvements concern the engine such as new pistons, lighter crankcases, changes to the coatings and a reworked double exhaust manifold, giving a muscular character to the LC8 heart. To optimize the air flow, there are two separate radiators, instead of the single unit that characterized the previous model. Based on the setting, the flow of hot air hitting the pilot's legs is reduced. Then considering a renewed air filter case, riders can access the air filter by removing four screws. This now includes vertical ribs that help transfer dust or sand to the bottom. Furthermore, given the collaboration with PANKL, the exchange rate is also refined in the insertions. An evolution that can be perceived above all by installing the optional Quickshifter+.

Also study the internal parts of the V-twin di 75°, optimizing heat dissipation and reducing the weight by 1,6 kg, always as a function of dynamism. The new engine LC8 approved Euro 5 offers 160 horses of power at 9.000 rpm e 138 Nm of torque at 6.500 rpm.

Proposal

The example will be offered at KTM dealers starting from March 2021 at the figure of 19.850 euros fc, as indicated.
