Kawasaki KLR 650, the New Edition is only for "Yankee"

A restyling, some small changes, same versatility

At the New York International Motorcycle Show, Kawasaki presented the new KLR 650, an acronym that was completed by the term new-edition, to underline a restyling intended for a simple and extremely long-lived model... in America. Oh yes, because in Japan they really forgot about Italy. Oh yes, because there would be a need for such a simple, reliable and multi-purpose motorbike, given that the most versatile proposal in Kawasaki's price lists is the Versys 650, a motorbike which, when necessary, struggles to put the wheels where the wheels are missing. asphalt.

However, compared to the model currently on the market, very little changes: the winning team doesn't change! The 650 was born in 1987, but production of the KLR began years earlier. After '87 the displacement was maintained, and refinements to the chassis, engine and transmission began. Indeed, a variant of the KLR was built to US Marine Corps specifications, with a diesel engine!

The 2014 model mounts different springs in stiffness, thus reviewing the ride comfort to which a redesigned saddle. A beautiful chromatic make-up, with a perfect match shiny green and black, or with a white or anthracite base. The engine, a nice 651cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, twin-cam, liquid-cooled, it puts out 44 horsepower and still uses a CVK 40 carburetor. The gearbox is 5-speed and the ignition is electronic. The all-terrain extraction is evident from the 21 and 17 inch spoked wheels and the large tank containing 24 litres. The bike weighs 177 kg in running order.

The “Yankee” price of the KLR 650 New Edition is dollars 6.599 and the 2013 version also remains on sale for $200 less. The European price... we will know when Kawasaki decides in how many markets this green dual-purpose product will appear.
