Indian Scouts 2015 – Polaris recalled 806 2015 Indian Scouts manufactured May 12, 2014 through February 13, 2015 due to a problem with the rear brake master cylinder.

According to information released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the cause of the malfunction would be a problem with the rear master cylinder, which would cause motorcycles a possible reduction or complete loss of rear brake power. A total or partial loss of rear braking force can, in fact, lengthen the distance needed to slow down or stop the motorcycle, increasing the risk of an accident. This is mainly due to the loss of pressure in the fluid that goes to the rear brakes.

The problem is believed to be caused by a manufacturing or assembly error on the part of the parts supplier Zhejiang Jingke Auto Parts Co., which as a consequence caused the piston fixing groove to be in the wrong position. Indian initially received warranty claims related to this issue on January 15th, with a second wave arriving on February 18th, at which point Polaris opened an investigation identifying the source of the issue. Indian believes only 2%-4% of Scouts will be affected. Dealers will be able to inspect the problem and, if necessary, replace the rear brake master cylinder on affected Indian Scouts. Owners who have already paid for the repairs will be refunded.
