According to data verified byASAP Observatory, over the course of last weekend, including Boxing Day (Monday 26 December 2022) in the news, there were 28 dead related to road accidents. A figure higher than the 18 victims recorded in the weekend preceding the one examined, as highlighted on the ASAPS portal.

The news

Among the 28 deaths, nine of these were under the age of 35. The youngest victim was 8 years old. Evaluating the data reported by region: five victims were confirmed in Lombardy, four respectively in Campania, Puglia and Veneto, three in Sicily alone, two in the Emilia-Romagna and Lazio regions and only one death in Abruzzo, Basilicata, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Piedmont.
Considering the accidents, two of these were multi-fatal, causing the death of four people. Overall, 24 occurred on extra-urban roads, two of these on the motorway and in nine cases the death was linked to a direct accident, without the involvement of other vehicles.
Overall, 19 motorists died, while among the other victims four were pedestrians, three motorcyclists, one was traveling by bike and another was traveling in a van, according to information.
