Harley-Davidson® presented the new 2014 motorcycle range, which features seven Touring, Trike and Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO™) models transformed thanks to Project RUSHMORE™ – an initiative, developed in collaboration with customers, which aims to optimize the experience of Harley-Davidson riding in all aspects.

The goal of an intense research program that lasted four years, the Project RUSHMORE™ introduces the most innovative technological and design improvements destined to overturn the expectations of lovers of the touring world, including: Boom!™ infotainment systems with Bluetooth® functionality and GPS navigation, Daymaker™ LED headlights, new fairing with SplitStream opening and group Twin-Cooled™ High Output Twin Cam 103™ powerplant.

“Project RUSHMORE™ is an entirely customer-driven Harley-Davidson product development journey – says Scott Habegger, Director of Motorcycle Planning at Harley-Davidson -. At Harley-Davidson, we pride ourselves on riding with our customers, and it couldn't be more true: Project RUSHMORE™ strengthens that bond and has some great surprises in store for 2014."

The company has also anticipated the launch of the CVO Softail® Deluxe model in a limited factory custom edition, the restyling of the historic Dyna® Fat Bob® and the introduction of the ABS system on all Sportster® models (except Iron 883™). Strengthened by this transversal revolution, Harley-Davidson is determined to confirm its status as leader of the American motorcycle market also for 2014.

Project RUSHMORE™:

Harley-Davidson redefines the perspectives of those who have made tourers their reason for living thanks to the introduction of Project RUSHMORE™, an initiative supported by kilometers of testing and direct feedback from riders and employees. The results of that research are cutting-edge technologies, thrilling performance and incredible style that, together, will radically transform Harley-Davidson's Touring and Trike platforms. The advantages for customers can be summarized in four categories:

  • Control: more reliability and safety at the service of the rider with Daymaker™ LED lights or dual halogen headlights, Reflex™ linked brakes with ABS and Twin-Cooled™ High Output Twin Cam 103™ and High Output Twin Cam 103™ engines.
  • Infotainment: new Boom! infotainment systems ™ Box with color screen that combines audio quality, Bluetooth® connectivity, voice recognition, TTS (text-to-speech) technology, GPS navigation and support for intercom and CB communications in a single device.
  • Comfort: from the new batwing fairing equipped with SplitStream opening to the redesigned passenger seat, aerodynamics and ergonomics come together to offer greater comfort.
  • Style: interventions aimed at improving form and functionality could not be missing. Remodeled Tour-Pak® and saddlebags with convenient one-touch elements, slimmer fenders, lightweight cast aluminum wheels and intuitive hand controls.

Project RUSHMORE™ findings will be applied to the following 2014 Harley-Davidson models: Road King® Classic, Street Glide®, Electra Glide® Ultra Classic®, Electra Glide® Ultra Limited®, Tri Glide® Ultra Classic®, CVO Ultra Limited® and CVO Road King®. (For additional item details, see the Project RUSHMORE™ press release.)

More news from Harley-Davidson for 2014:

  • The very strong personality of the Fat Bob® model returns to assert itself thanks to the new Dark Custom™ look. Among the main innovations stand out the truncated rear mudguard and the recessed circular LED tail light. In the new model, black replaces chrome everywhere: engine, air filter cover, rear shock absorber covers, fork plates, headlight frames, console and battery cover. Also black are the lenticular aluminum wheels with windows, powder-coated and finished with the laser-engraved Harley-Davidson® logo and decorative stripes.
  • Starting in 2014, the entire Sportster® range (with the exception of Iron 883™) will be equipped with the ABS safety system, in addition to redesigned manual controls and brake components, easier maintenance and the HD® Smart Security System with safety remote control that automatically activates/deactivates the alarm and ignition depending on the distance from the motorcycle.
  • The 2014 CVO™ series is represented by the CVO™ Softail® Deluxe model, a limited edition custom tourer featuring a removable windshield and GPS navigator, Daymaker LED lights, detachable saddlebags and, of course, the distinctive paint job and the mighty Screamin 110 cc Eagles that have always distinguished the CVO program. The CVO™ Road King® and CVO™ Ultra Limited® models return with new specifications and enhancements derived from Project RUSHMORE™, while the CVO™ Breakout® Softail® chopper will offer three bright new paint schemes. (For further details on the 2014 CVO™ line, see the dedicated press release)
  • The Twin Cam 103™ unit will be standard on all Harley-Davidson Dyna® and Softail® models.
