Husqvarna – Husqvarna will soon reveal a new single-cylinder street motorcycle, at least according to a press release issued by the Swedish company itself. For now there are no clues as to what the model will actually look like, but given that last year the company had unveiled a supermotard concept based on the KTM 690 SMC R it seems extremely likely that it will be a production version of the latter.

Presented last year at theEicma in Milan the '701 Prototype' is powered by a single 690cc KTM, which offers a declared 75 hp (55.95 Kw), nine more than the 690 SMC R and which, moreover, adopts KTM's own steel trellis frame. Updates should also include a major restyling. A production-related clue came in January when a video of the bike emerged shot by a designer whose job was to "analyze the designs from concept through to production." The new Husqvarna street bike should therefore be unveiled at the international motorcycle fair in Milan, better known as EICMA, which will open its doors on November 4, along with two new concepts. “Husqvarna is pleased to announce the unveiling of three exciting new models at the EICMA Italian Motorcycle Expo. They will be models that will give a clear understanding of the future of the brand", Husqvarna wrote in its statement.

Known today for its off-road models and its sporting successes Husqvarna achieved fame during the early part of the 20th century thanks to its commitment to motorsport-based road versions. Now, with 111 years of history, Husqvarna makes its return to the road segment with a new large displacement, single-cylinder model, and with two fascinating and very modern conceptual models. Husqvarna's new single-cylinder model will deliver premium features, while maintaining the Swedish trend towards functional design and, like a true, self-respecting Husqvarna, it will be faithful to the brand's core values. When it will be presented at the EICMA in Milan, 2014 edition, will showcase state-of-the-art technology and a rich sense of heritage, while the two conceptual models will instead offer the clear future direction of the Husqvarna brand within the road market. The prototypes will showcase lightness and functionality, top-notch hardware and uncompromising design.

Husqvarna's press release on the 701 concept last year read like this: “The concept motorcycle, which is clearly identifiable as a genuine Husqvarna, showcases innovative ideas and incorporates all the key design features of a premium product. The bike gives a visual indication of the Husqvarna design direction, the future philosophy that Husqvarna will follow, where the bodywork surfaces are understated, focusing more on simplicity." Technically the Husqvarna 701 features a large 690cc 4-stroke single-cylinder engine, producing 75hp and exceptional torque, dressed in a very light Chromoly steel trellis frame and supported by the latest WP fork technology and shock technology. High-performance exhaust gives the Husqvarna a soulful voice, while the latest Brembo radial brakes provide eye-popping stopping power. “The Husqvarna 701 embraces the more than XNUMX-year heritage of the Husqvarna brand and projects it into the future”, this is how the note from the parent company concluded.
