Husqvarna FS 450 2022: refinements for the supermoto racing example [PHOTO]

The updated one Husqvarna FS450 for the 2022 it features a distinctive color scheme that recalls the motocross range and a new Brembo hydraulic clutch operation.

The motorcycle

Together with the colours, the plastics used to define a distinctive design are highlighted. The airbox is characterized by localized ducts in order to avoid pressure-related deformations, favoring a consistent flow of air and maximum protection of the filter, accessible without tools by removing the side panel on the left side, as indicated.
Ergonomics are designed to promote control and comfort, allowing riders to express their maximum potential. During the tests, the contact points between the rider and the vehicle were established, taking into account the movements during driving.
The motorcycle tank is made of polyethylene 7 liters with a threaded cap and an integrated fuel pump. The external pipes are not very exposed, avoiding the risk of damage. There is also a ProTaper handlebar with standard handguards, an ODI lock-on grip on the left side and a vulcanized grip with integrated throttle control on the right. There is a game adjustment system and also a selector for the two maps and launch control, which can be activated with the engine at idle by pressing the TC and MAP buttons together for about two seconds, noticing a flashing LED indicator.
Traction control can be activated or deactivated from the selector on the handlebar. With a rapidly increasing speed, the control unit deduces a loss of grip and intervenes by attenuating the torque delivered, as indicated. The Keihin control unit is designed to be compact and quick in action.
The bike also features a flat profile saddle with a high grip covering.

Technology

The bike is equipped with a chrome-molybdenum steel frame made using hydroformed tubes, laser cut and robot welded. A pattern with guards finished in a blue powder coat. There is also a frame in carbon-based composite with two-piece structure made of 70% polyamide and 30% carbon fibre. The weight is just over 1 kg.
The technical framework includes CNC machined fork plates with 16 mm offset developed in aluminium. A front table includes a protector that covers the bottom plate protecting it from wear.
The WP XACT fork, with separate legs with encapsulated air springs and a pressurized oil chamber, results from 48 mm. Adjustments are possible via the single valve for air pressure and the adjusters for compression and rebound. The front wheel axle results from 22 mm and the base offset from 28 mm.
The hollow swingarm is made of aluminum and the marks for chain adjustment can be seen from above, simplifying tensioning. The WP XACT monoshock offers high level traction and absorption, considering the low friction seals for the linkage bearings. A pressure balancing solution inside the shock absorber body allows for homogeneous damping and determines comfort and handling. It is fully adjustable and associated with a leverage system with dedicated geometry. The travel of the rear wheel amounts to 266 mm.
The Brembo braking system is made up of a radially mounted 4-piston pump and front caliper flanked by a 310 mm, while behind there is a disc from 220 mm and a single-piston caliper.
The advanced Husqvarna FS 450 is equipped with lightweight black spoked wheels from Alpina. The front one is 16,5 inches, the rear one is 17 inches. They are fitted with 125/80 R420 and 165/65 R420 Bridgestone slick tyres.

Engine and power

On a technical level, there is also a 44 mm Keihin throttle body and radiators developed by industry experts using high-strength aluminium. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technology is used to evaluate the best air passage. The radiators are placed close to the center of gravity to support driving dynamics.
The engine is single-shaft and the centralization of the masses is a crucial aspect, allowing it to be positioned close to the center of gravity. The maximum power is 63 horses, taking into account its 27,3 kg weight.
The bike is equipped with a Suter slipper clutch that allows for supermoto-style drift control and a lightweight five-speed gearbox developed by Pankl Racing Systems. A sophisticated sensor detects the gear inserted and allows you to adopt specific engine maps for each gear, according to the information.
Finally, the exhaust system is developed by specialists to obtain maximum performance with the lowest possible weight, the terminal is made of aluminum and finished in black.
