Honda: Renato Zocchi's triumph at the Alps Tourist Trophy International on CB500X [PHOTO]

Renato Zocchi stands outAlps Tourist Trophy International. The expert pilot from Lombardy, on an example of Honda CB500X prepared for the challenge, he took first place in the class “tourist” and also in the overall ranking, considering the contenders in the category “specialist”.

The success

Five stages e 1500 km. Riding the CB500X there was also a comparison with enduro bikes. The consistency of the twin-cylinder crossover for A2 license is functional, already versatile on dirt roads and, on this occasion, characterized by a specific set-up in consideration of the challenge. Zocchi, together with his technical partners, followed the transformation of the vehicle aiming to test and bring this example to the most interesting international adventuring events. A successful and welcomed debut.

Returning to his own words Renato Zocchi reported on the occasion: “It was an unthinkable result that went beyond our wildest expectations. We adapted the small Honda CB500X for off-road use in anticipation of participating in the Gibraltar Race, thinking of fast routes with medium terrain difficulties, but I instead found myself driving it on mule tracks and mainly rocky terrain with loose stones. As if that wasn't enough, the heavy rains of the 4th stage made the last 2 stages extremely treacherous, with slippery rocks and long stretches of mud. I fought until the last stage not only with the classic "endurones" but also with specialist enduro bikes and against strong riders such as Bob Corse, winner of the 2019 Gibraltarrace and Mirko Bettini, expert rally driver and 4th in the 2019 Gibraltarrace."
Collaboration between Honda Motor Europe Ltd. Italy e Renato Zocchi dates back to 2017 with the CRF 250 Rally, then new chapters in 2018 and 2019, recalling the success in class 2 at the Gibraltar Race on the Honda X-ADV maxiscooter.
