An agreement was reached by Consortium for interchangeable batteries for electric motorcycles on the development of interchangeable batteries and standardized replacement systems, with a view to sharing and using electric motorcycles in Japan. The Consortium, founded in April 2019 by Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., suzuki motor corporation e Yamaha Motor Co., aims to grow the market for these vehicles in the Asian country.

Information

The foundation derives guidelines for the sharing of interchangeable batteries and replacement systems between the four construction companies, in function of the expansion of environmentally friendly mobility and contrasting aspects relating to the electrical panorama, such as autonomy and charging times .
Bearing in mind the convenience and effectiveness of the mutual use of interchangeable batteries, the Consortium has been supporting the project for over a year “e-Yan OSAKA”, conceived by the JAMA Motorcycle Committee (which includes Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Suzuki Motor Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co.), the Prefecture and the University of Osaka, oriented towards raising awareness and the use of eco-sustainable electric motorcycles, as indicated.
Given also a growing attention to environmental issues, the Consortium believes that the collaboration and cooperation on the project of the entire motorcycle sector will allow the creation of a society in which motorcycles will still be protagonists of mobility, one of a different type and without the current emission levels.
Furthermore, part of the agreed common specifications are compliant with the technical document TP21003 drawn up on 19 March 2021 by Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. Organization (JASO). The Consortium will carry out technical checks and work on the standardization of interchangeable batteries according to the directives of the technical document, working closely with the JAMA (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association) to create international standards for sharing interchangeable batteries, as indicated.
