Harley-Davidson LiveWire: a new electric progression linked to the HD Revelation engine [PHOTO]

A thrust equal to 105 horsepower

Harley-Davidson LiveWire represents a new production chapter from the historic Milwaukee manufacturer

An electric, non-thermal engine. The new Harley-Davidson® LiveWire™ it is moved by a different type of force and perspective.

A new electric concept

The heart of this project, which includes a solution HD™ Connect which amplifies the interaction with the vehicle, an instrument panel included in a screen TFT da 4,3 inches and various ride support systems; It is composed of a permanent magnet electric motor called HD Revelation™. An engine cooled via a “water jacket”, i.e. a small radiator that brings together the refrigerant placed longitudinally and at the bottom of the frame, taking into account the center of gravity.
Power is provided by a high voltage battery from 15,5 kWh, Also known as Res, i.e. rechargeable energy storage system. Made up of lithium ion cells and centrally located, in turn embraced by a cast aluminum frame. The battery housing which increases the rigidity of the frame itself is also a heat sink, thanks to the presence of appendages and the exposure of the sides to the movement of flows, just as support is also provided by air intakes contained on the bodywork , which convey the air to the upper part of the housing, always following the indications proposed. The vehicle also features an accessory battery 12 volt, functional for using the remote control and starting the motorcycle.
You can accumulate power through the transmission when “don't give gas”, allowing the engine to become a generator, channeling energy towards the Res. It will be felt as an engine braking effect. This regeneration is also programmed based on the four driving modes (Sports Modes, Road Mode, Range Mode e rainmode) and can also be managed, always according to the indications. To recharge the battery you can use a charger level 1 with a standard socket from 120 volt (o 240 volt), using a dedicated power cable located under the seat. In this case we are talking about an autonomy per estimated charging time of 13 miles for each hour of charging carried out; evaluating a complete charge over the course of a night. A system is also available DC Fast Charge (DCFC) using a connector SAE J1772 (or charging connector CCS2 – IEC type 2 in Europe and other international markets). In this other case the reported autonomy amounts to 192 miles per hour of charging, the80% reached in 40 minutes or complete in 60 minutes, always considering the indications. The charging cradle is visible in front of the seat and covered, as indicated. The reported autonomy amounts to 235 km in urban sections (evaluated “according to the SAE J2982 testing procedure, and is based on the performance expected from a fully charged battery used under specified conditions. Actual range will vary depending on driving habits, weather conditions and equipment status.", is made known on the occasion) e 152 km on mixed routes with straights and variable driving situations. In this case, as specified: “Measured using MIC – Urban and MIC – Mixed (96 km/h) tests”.

A lightning boost

The permanent magnet electric drive HD Revelation™ offers 105 horses (78 kW) of maximum power and 116 Nm of couple. The latter is offered immediately upon rotation of the accelerator and is always available. Considering the characteristics, the new Live Wire allows you to reach i from stationary 100 km/h in just 3 seconds, as anticipated. The transmission is not traditional and there is no friction, favoring an immediate dialogue with the vehicle. Among the interesting aspects, the output shaft of the engine mates with a gearbox that implements a gear reduction 9,71:1 in an oil bath. Then a final drive belt transmits the power from the gearbox output pulley to the rear wheel, in ratio 3:1 between the output pulley and the wheel pulley. Finally a set of gears allows for sound reproduction while doing this Live Wire takes speed, a new sound signature that characterizes this innovative example of Milwaukee.

Colors, arrival and reported price

Considering what is indicated on the manufacturer's portal, you can opt for three colors: Orange Fuse, Yellow Fuse e Vivid black. Let's start talking about numbers by 34.200 euro, always considering what has been reported, anticipating availability as early as this autumn at selected dealers in North America and Europe.
