Through a press release, the Piaggio Group announced that the Tribunal Judiciaire of Paris and Ordinary Court of Milan, with sentences issued a few days apart, they condemned Peugeot Motorcycles for the infringement of a European patent concerning three-wheeled scooter technology Piaggio MP3.

An attention that also concerns a vast anti-counterfeiting activity that the Piaggio Group has been carrying out for some time and which includes constant monitoring of competing products and patent databases at an international level. The legal actions initiated by the Piaggio Group over the last few years have allowed the recognition of the uniqueness of the design and technological innovation of the products developed by the brands linked to the Group.

The question concerns the model Peugeot Metropolis. As reported in the press release, for the violation, Peugeot Motocycles was sentenced in France to compensation for damages quantified at 1.500.000 euros, with further fines for violation and legal costs. The decision of the Court of Paris also signals the inhibition for Peugeot Motocycles on French territory from the production, promotion, marketing, import, export, use and/or possession of any three-wheeled scooter that uses the control system patented by the Piaggio Group , including the aforementioned Peugeot Metropolis, highlighting a financial penalty for each vehicle subject to counterfeiting.
The Court of Milan has prohibited Peugeot Motocycles from importing, exporting, marketing and advertising the Peugeot Metropolis vehicle on Italian territory, including via the internet, establishing a penalty of 6.000 euros for each example sold after 30 days from notification of the sentence. Peugeot Motocycles will have to withdraw all counterfeit models from the market in Italy within 90 days, under penalty of a further penalty of 10.000 euros for each day of delay in carrying out the instructions.
