EICMA 2013: Yamaha Tricity concept

A light and agile 3-wheeler with futuristic lines

The time has also come for Yamaha to launch its own interpretation of three-wheeled mobility with the name Tricity. Obviously the stylistic platform is very similar to that of the other three-wheelers, based on the formula of two front wheels and a single driving wheel.

Tricity shows itself with rounded but decisive lines, the features are well in step with the times and also vaguely futuristic, with absolutely small dimensions, useful for the urban environment. The saddle pad comfortably holds an integral and the flat platform offers other loading possibilities. Drawing a parallel with the various offers on the market, Tricity seems to be the lightest (only 150 kg) and compact.

When a new 3-wheeler is born it is logical that curiosity goes in the direction of understanding the solution adopted for the front suspension. Well, at the moment we know that it is hydraulic: each wheel is supported by two suspension elements like those we can find in a conventional fork; they are connected by a transverse arm mounted on the top of the suspension rods. Other details on the operating kinematics are not known.

The new Yamaha three-wheeler It has a very impressive weight-to-power ratio in terms of sprinting advantage and top speed. The central point of all this is the engine: a single-cylinder with a displacement of 125 cc, 4-stroke with electronic injection. A power unit already seen in other models from the House of Tre Diapason characterized by low consumption and high efficiency. The torque is transmitted to the drive wheel by a classic CVT transmission.

If Yamaha leaders confirm, we will have to wait until next summer to have the new exclusive three-point scooter by Yamaha. As for the price, it is said to be very competitive, less than 4.000 euros. A target shared by other 125/150 scooters, but... with only two wheels!
