EICMA 2013: Caterham Bikes, 2-wheel innovation

Three hi-tech, ecological and essential proposals

Caterham is a name that brings to the minds of enthusiasts a type of vehicle that aesthetically and mechanically represents a hymn to essentiality and beautiful driving. It was 1959 when the factory was born from the ashes of an official Lotus dealer in England re-proposing, revised, the myth Lotus Seven, a car that, quite possibly, is the maximum expression of motorcycling on four wheels. After several years of evolutions, single-make championships and concept cars, in 2011 came the revolution brought about by Tony Fernandes and Dato' Kamarudin Meranun who took over the historic Caterham Cars brand. It was born like this Caterham Group, a name synonymous with expansion which in fact, after 2 years, led to the creation of Caterham Bikes.

The division “Bikes” of the Brand's main objective is to incorporate Caterham's DNA into the world of two wheels, preserving it British heritage, excellent performance and intuitive handling; these means must also respect the particular character of the brand, maintaining its promise of "fun within everyone's reach".

Brutus 750: Described as the “SUV of motorcycles,” almost menacing in appearance but surprisingly agile to drive, the Brutus 750 can serve as a street motorcycle, an off-road vehicle, or even a snowmobile (conversion in less than four hours). Classic E-Bike: characterized by a very particular retro look that recalls the typical models of the golden age of British motorcycling, this motorcycle boasts a range of 40-80 km on a single charge and does not require a license in the EU. Carbon E-Bike: a first-rate motorcycle, characterized by a modern line inspired by Formula 1 technology; a limited edition version, embellished with exclusive methods and materials specifically used in Formula 1, is currently under development.

Caterham Bikes' target will initially be the European, North American and South American markets, the group will look to Asia as a key growth market. The production of the three motorcycle prototypes, all accessible in terms of cost, is expected as early as Spring 2014: we will start with the Brutus 750 model and then continue throughout the year with the two electric motorcycles.
