Ducati: commitment to environmental sustainability and participation in the #Project1Hour initiativeDucati: commitment to environmental sustainability and participation in the #Project1Hour initiative

Ducati takes part in #Project1Hour, the initiative of Volkswagen Group aimed at employees of the various brands with an hour of training and awareness raising on the topic of climate change, on the occasion of World Earth Day.

The project and environmental sensitivity

Il online workshop it was held by Professor Riccardo Valentini, an expert on the topic of climate change, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2007 and member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the UN scientific committee relating to the climate.
On this occasion, Ducati employees dealt with environmental issues and the same impact that the ABI hasclimate regulations, receiving indications.
The idea of the
#Project1Hour is that every single member can participate in protecting the climate, reducing the impact on the environment with their own actions.
The project proposed by the Group was welcomed with enthusiasm by Ducati, whose commitment to the environment is present in the Environmental Mission which defines the objectives that the Company wants to achieve in this area.
In this regard, Ducati joined the project at the beginning of 2020 Su-EATable Life, a program funded by the European Union that aims to involve citizens in adopting a sustainable and healthy diet, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save water.
Through an internal communication campaign and by reviewing the company canteen menu, Ducati has raised awareness among its employees of how a balanced daily diet can lead to benefits for health and the climate. By opting for a more sustainable lunch, each employee who used the Ducati canteen contributed to saving on average around 1,25 kg CO₂/working week, according to the indications. The project is still active and in 5 months of testing the Ducati canteen has reduced its impact on the environment by 19 tonnes of CO₂, as reported.

Su-EATable Life is just one of the initiatives carried out over the years by the Emilian brand regarding environmental impact. Considering the energy resources, in the plant of Borgo Panigale a trigeneration plant has been active since 2016, which together with the production of 85% of the electricity requirement allows the generation of thermal and cooling energy. The remaining part of the necessary electricity is purchased externally from renewable energy sources. A choice that allowed Ducati to reduce the CO₂ emitted by the factory in 2020 by 48% compared to 2013, based on the information.
Over the last 5 years, a bio-monitoring program of the impact on the surrounding environment has also been conducted with the introduction of five beehives within the company perimeter. Continuous sampling, thanks to the support of professionals, allows us to evaluate the influence that activities have on around 500.000 bees present.
Attention also paid during the organization of events, as demonstrated by the certification ISO 20121. for the sustainable event management system obtained during the 2016 and 2018 editions of World Ducati Week. WDW itself is the first event in the world, in the two-wheel sector, to be certified as a sustainable event.
