Ducati Panigale V4 and Panigale V4 S 2022: different refinements for greater sportiness [PHOTO]

The S version with event-based suspension control

The evolved Ducati Panigale V4 she is the protagonist of the fifth episode of the web series Ducati World Premiere 2022. A sports car refined in every aspect, from the aesthetic to the technical, also offered in version S.

The Ducati Panigale V4 for 2022

A new result in the continuous exchange of experiences and knowledge gained by Ducati Corse in the sporting field, then translated into series production. Progress that ranges from aerodynamics to the electronics, without forgetting the chassis and the propulsive heart.
One is immediately noticeable new fairing, the aerodynamics revised by Ducati engineers stand out in particular. New ones appear more compact airfoils and characterized by a dual profile setup, which offers an increase in efficiency with the same vertical load of up to 37 kg at 300 km/h. In the lower area of the fairing there are redefined extraction outlets to optimize the cooling and performance offered by the engine, especially when riding on the track.

Speaking of ergonomics, the tank is characterized by a new shape in the rear area, also known as "fit", allowing better support for the rider during braking, with less effort on the arms. Overall, the setup favors better insertion of the rider, also optimizing the contact area of the arms during the hanging off phase, when one leans out of the motorbike in the middle of the bend. Furthermore, the saddle is flatter and has a different double fabric covering, attenuating the rider's tendency to move forward when braking and also facilitating movement, as indicated.
From an aesthetic point of view, the new Panigale V4 is characterized by a new graphic design defined by the Ducati Style Center with black logos on the red-dyed fairings, furthermore on the S version the double fabric saddle is two-tone and red tags can also be seen on the black circles.
We also highlight the accessories present in the Ducati Performance catalogue, which includes approved parts and others expressly designed for use on the track.

Technique and technology

The engine Desmosedici Stradale it is a stressed element of the structural scheme and the frame is directly anchored to it Front Frame in aluminium. Scheme that also includes a lightweight front subframe developed in magnesium and that shell-cast aluminum seat post.
The chassis of the new one Ducati Panigale V4 It includes a fully adjustable 43mm diameter Showa Big Piston Fork (BPF) along with a Sachs steering damper. At the back there is an adjustable Sachs mono-shock absorber and the wheels are cast in aluminum and have a five-spoke design.
The new generation electronic package is linked to the use of a six-axis inertial platform that detects various parameters and there are also controls that manage the different driving phases associated with four Riding Modes: Race A, Race B, Sport e Street. Parameters visible more clearly on a new instrument panel, characterized by a new distribution of the functions of the external warning lights. The advanced interface includes a new Info Mode defined by MotoGP riders and named “Track Evo”, added to those already present Road e Track.
In the new configuration, the rev counter is visible at the top along a horizontal scale, while the gear engaged stands out in the center of the display. On the right side, then, there are four sectors of different colors and dedicated to as many electronically controlled solutions: DTC, DWC, DSC, EBC. On the left, however, the speed and number of laps performed are indicated, and the stopwatch is also shown. Finally, the gear change is no longer signaled by the flashing of the tachometer, but by observing a Green LED present in the left area of the instrumentation.

La Ducati Panigale V4S is equipped with a new Öhlins NPX25/30 pressurized fork with event-based electronic management, characterized by a pressurized cartridge damping system borrowed from that of the Öhlins racing forks, minimizing the risk of cavitation of the hydraulic fluid in the face of a traditional.
The travel of the new fork is 125 mm, a figure that has increased by 5 mm compared to that fitted to the 4 Panigale V2021. The possibility of adopting softer settings is highlighted, given that the spring stiffness has increased to 9,5 N/ mm, offering greater confidence during more intense braking and preserving a little margin compared to the bottom of the stroke, as indicated.
There is also an Öhlins TTX36 mono-shock absorber and an Öhlins steering damper, always equipped with an event-based control system, being able to customize the intensity of suspension intervention based on the individual driving phases and vary the operating parameters of the individual hardware components. Aspects that represent a higher level of control of the motorcycle's dynamics.
The pivot of the single-sided aluminum swingarm is 4 mm higher than the previous model and this allows an increase in the anti-squat effect, i.e. a decrease in the sinking of the rear when exiting corners and when reopening the throttle at advantage of stability in progression.
The braking system features discs at the front with a diameter of 330 mm and Brembo Stylema® monobloc calipers with four pistons 30 mm in diameter each, while behind there is a single disc 245 mm combined with a 2-piston caliper.
The Panigale V4 S example is equipped with 3-spoke forged aluminum alloy wheels which are fitted with Pirelli DIABLO™ Supercorsa SP tires measuring 120/70 ZR17 at the front and 200/60 ZR 17 at the rear.

Motor

The engine, as mentioned, is a Desmosedici Stradale. A heart from 1.103 cc in version Euro 5 and further evolved for 2022, through the adoption of dedicated technical elements. The engine has been updated in the lubrication circuit, associated with a new oil pump that requires less power. The increased diameter of the silencer outlets allows attenuation of the exhaust back pressure and an increase in performance.
A new logic has been implemented Power Mode with four configurations: Full, High, Medium, low. The Full and Low ones are of a new concept, while the High and Medium ones employ a new strategy. Power Mode Full is the sportiest and allows the engine to express its maximum potential, without electronic filters, except in the case of first gear.
Moving on to the High and Medium Power Modes, we note a new Ride by Wire map management system with specific calibration for each of the six gears, allowing optimal thrust in any case. The Power Mode Low, then, was designed for road driving, limiting the maximum power to 150 horsepower and offering a manageable response.
Another interesting innovation is the adoption of a new gearbox with a lengthened ratio for the first, second and sixth gears. A type of gear ratio used on the Panigale V4 R model fielded in the Superbike World Championship and more oriented towards track use. First gear was lengthened by 11,6%, while second gear was lengthened by 5,6%. The smaller speed difference between the first two ratios also allows the DQS, given a new calibration, to work in a more functional way while keeping overall performance in mind. The sixth gear has been lengthened by 1,8% and, in light of an increase in power, the top speed is 5 km/h higher than the previous Panigale V4.
The power reaches a peak of 215,5 horses at 13.000 rpm and the increase in power is 1,5 horsepower compared to the previous version, rising to 2,5 horsepower beyond the maximum power peak at 14.500 rpm. The couple reaches i 123,6 Nm (12,6 kgm) at 9.500 rpm, and 6.000% of the torque is available already from 80 rpm, according to the indications.
Performance can be further optimized with the adoption of racing exhaust systems present in the Ducati Performance catalogue. To be able to ride even on circuits with more stringent noise limits, we highlight a new exhaust completely in titanium, created in collaboration with Akrapovič, which falls within the noise limit of 105 dB. They become 102 dB by adopting the dB killer. The exhaust system features high silencers next to the tail and guarantees an increase in power of 12,5 horsepower, reaching 228 horsepower. The maximum torque figure also increases to 131 Nm, taking into account an overall weight reduction of 5 kg. A new exhaust system added to a more compact full racing version placed under the engine and already available in the catalogue, also Akrapovič and entirely in titanium, which with the same performance reduces the weight by 6 kg and has a noise level of 109 dB , which as indicated drop to 107 dB with the dB-killer.
