Ducati: the electric motorcycle could arrive sooner than expected
"We are not very far from the arrival of a zero-emission model" declared Ducati CEO, Claudio Domenicali
It was already discussed at the Ducati for Education press conference, during which an electric motorcycle was presented, created by the students of the UNIBO Motostudent team in collaboration with Ducati engineers, a motorcycle that participated in the Motostudent (international competition between university) finishing in third position.
In that context, the CEO of Ducati had spoken out about the possibility of the Borgo Panigale company creating an electric motorbike, but had not gone into details, preferring to 'overlook' it. Recently however, on the occasion of the awards ceremony, which was held in Aragon, the CEO himself returned to the topic by reopening the electric chapter in a not too distant future: “The future is electric. We are making great strides forward and are not very far from the arrival of a zero-emission model. With this participation in the Motostudent competition in the electric motorcycle sector we are signaling our interest."
“The two-wheeler sector needs more time than cars to find the right balance between performance, costs, autonomy and battery life – continued the CEO – we follow battery chemistry with great attention and we have our own group of work that is working on it."
So there is a plan for the creation of an electric motorcycle and from Domenicali's words the first Ducati branded electric motorcycle could arrive very soon. Could this be a move to chase the competition? Like Harley Davidson which has already announced an electric motorcycle? For now we remain in the field of hypotheses, what is certain is that the future for Ducati could become Desmo-electric.
