Ducati Globetrotter 90° – Ducati Globetrotter 90° ended where it started, in Borgo Panigale, after 30.000 kilometers around the world. On December 15th the headquarters of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer welcomed Timo Schäfer, the last of the seven motorcyclists who have taken turns driving the Ducati Multistrada 4 Enduro around the globe since last July 1200th. Waiting for Timo Schäfer's arrival were Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, and many employees of the Bolognese company. Domenicali enthusiastically congratulated Timo and all the other six adventurous globetrotters for having tackled the incredible world tour with determination and passion, which from now on will remain one of the most beautiful memories in Ducati history.

In the five months of this special journey dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Ducati, the protagonists were the Indian Vir Nakai and then the Frenchman Laurent Cochet, the Belgian Jessica Leyne, the Brazilian Eduardo Generali, the Australian Steve Fraser and the Englishman Hugo Wilson. All of them are expert motorcyclists, passionate travelers and above all skilled storytellers. Day after day on the blog Globetrotter90°.ducati.com they kept a logbook, to tell the many Ducati fans what was happening during their adventurous experience. Stage after stage, the seven globetrotters passed the special torch, a symbolic baton of the relay created by the Ducati Design Center and with a camera inside to film and share every emotion of this adventure never attempted before. From Bologna to Scandinavia, then to Russia and across the legendary Trans-Siberian to Japan, the United States, again through half of Europe: finally the torch and Multistrada 1200 Enduro have returned home, after having touched the symbolic places of Ducati history.

Timo Schäfer is 30 years old and from Karlsruhe, Germany. A student of Mechanical Engineering, he left the Isle of Man, England, last December 2nd. The next stop was Maidstone, also in the United Kingdom, where the globetrotter met the pilot Paul Smart. The young German motorcyclist and his old glory recalled what Ducati considers the most important victory in his history. On 23 April 1972, the first Imola 200 Miglia was in fact won by Smart in the standard 750 GT; second, Bruno Spaggiari on the same bike. The meeting between globetrotter Timo Schäfer and 73-year-old Paul Smart ended in a truly special way. When it came time to say goodbye, Smart couldn't resist: he got on his Ducati Scrambler and accompanied Schäfer to the entrance to the Eurotunnel, despite the wet asphalt and the temperature below three degrees centigrade!

Having crossed France, Belgium and a good part of Germany and always with temperatures below zero degrees, the globetrotter Timo Schäfer then reached Ingolstadt, in Bavaria. Here is the Audi Museum Mobil, which until 30 April 2017 hosts the exhibition “More Than Red – Passione Ducati” dedicated to the 90 years of the Bolognese motorcycle manufacturer. Timo Schäfer went to visit her. The Multistrada 1200 Enduro and the globetrotter, still muddy after the long journey, were celebrated and showered with photos by visitors to the exhibition who then wanted to know every detail of his adventure from the motorcyclist.

Afterwards, the globetrotter crossed the Alpine pass to return to Italy and arrive at the Monza Circuit. Here, in 1958 the then futuristic Ducati Siluro of just 100 cm3 set 30 world speed records in a single day - November 44th. One of the heroes of that feat was Santo Ciceri and the globetrotter Timo Schäfer experienced the indescribable emotion of meeting him on that same track. Then, the Multistrada 1200 Enduro arrived in Florence to greet another living legend of Ducati: Giuliano Maoggi, born in 1926, who in 1956 won the 4th Motogiro d'Italia on the Gran Sport 100, called Marianna, designed by Fabio Taglioni. Having crossed the legendary Futa pass, here is the arrival in Borgo Panigale on December 15th, thus concluding the unforgettable Globetrotter 90°.
