Ducati Diavel V4: a redefined concept with V4 Granturismo engine [PHOTO]

A low weight of 13 kg and a distinctive style

The new Ducati Diavel V4 is the protagonist of the sixth episode of the web series Ducati World Premiere 2023. An example, redefined from an aesthetic and technical point of view, which transmits outstanding performance for lovers of long journeys.

The model is recognizable at first glance, observing the perched shapes in the front area contrasted with a slim and streamlined rear part. Sculpted and sporty features alternate, anticipating the proactive strength of this example which recalls the powerful muscle cruisers and the lively naked sports bikes to be driven on the mixture of consistent accelerations and decelerations, at low speed along the straights, but also along the arteries that project into the distance given its aptitude for tourism.

The aesthetics have changed compared to the previous generation and it is not only the muscular features, the grips and the various details that capture the eye, but also the new light pattern of the light clusters. A full-LED signature enriches the design of the Diavel V4, starting from double C of the DRL front which represents an evolution of the previous design and embraces the front headlight layout. It continues with the dynamic direction indicators integrated into the handlebars, placed in front of the small reservoirs for the brake and clutch controls. Finally the characteristic rear light cluster consisting of a matrix of point LEDs located under the codon. An optical signature distinguishable in the motorcycle scene, which allows you to identify the model even from a distance.

Among the connotative elements it is also necessary to mention four-way exhaust, which highlight the propulsive architecture of the heart that animates the new Diavel V4, in addition to the spacious 240/45 rear tire. Also distinctive is the design of the five-spoke alloy wheels with a profile embellished with machined surfaces, as underlined.
The colors are matched to the model Ducati red e Thrilling Black (a glossy black) and can be enriched with various accessories, consulting the Ducati Performance catalogue, starting with the semi-rigid suitcases of 48 liters in total for which it is already prepared, or an approved exhaust silencer with cover and four titanium end caps, to accentuate its sporty image together with billet parts, carbon parts, forged rims and brake calipers in red or black.

Electronics and technology

The electronic systems are managed via backlit controls on the handlebars and the bike features a new 5 inch color TFT dashboard with Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones, encouraging the use of various functions such as a turn-by-turn navigation system offered as an accessory, through the Ducati Link App.
There are three Power Modes and four Riding Modes, allowing you to choose between Sport, Touring, Urban and a new Wet program designed for driving on wet surfaces, for example. The Riding Modes allow you to manage the delivery and intervention of the driving assistance systems ABS cornering, Ducati Traction Control in Cornering version e Ducati Wheelie Control, based on the conditions and needs of the pilot.
The Cruise Control is also functional and can be used along motorway journeys, just as the Ducati Quick Shift up/down supports the use of the gearbox. There is also a Launch Control that allows quick shots.

The weight in running order is 223 kg, a reduction of 13 kg in comparison with the Diavel 1260 S, specifically 5 kg for the engine and 8 kg for the vehicle. A result linked to the low weight of the V4 Granturismo engine and to other interventions aimed at various elements.
The bike is equipped with an upside-down fork with 50 mm stanchions and a cantilever shock absorber, both adjustable; while the braking system includes Brembo Stylema® calipers and a double 330 mm front disc.
The riding position is favored by a low saddle height 790 millimeters from the ground, central footrests and a high handlebar and closer together by 20 mm compared to the Diavel 1260 model, to further facilitate maneuvers. A riding position that supports control and comfort is also linked to the work of a rear suspension with travel increased by 15 mm, together with the presence of a wide and profiled saddle, defined to offer maximum freedom of movement, as reported.
For the passenger there is an equally welcoming seat and footrests capable of retracting under the tail, as well as a retractable telescopic rear handle. The footrests and handle are hidden in the closed position, and there is also a cover for the passenger seat supplied as standard and installable, to make the Diavel V4 a single-seater or two-seater motorbike according to needs.

Engine and performance

The engine 4 cc V1.158 Granturismo figures as a central element of the style and raises the performance of the vehicle, also thanks to the refined technology of the counter-rotating drive shaft, which attenuates the gyroscopic effect, increasing agility.
The Twin Pulse combustion order and the dedicated exhaust system, developed with the quality of the sound emitted in mind, are equally characterizing aspects of the vocal timbre of the V4 Granturismo linked to the model. An extended deactivation system for the rear cylinders is also highlighted, an aspect that allows the unit to act as a twin-cylinder or as a four-cylinder with an imperceptible transition and a variation in the tone of the noise when switching from one mode to another, as reported. A deeper sound and lower frequencies when only the two front cylinders operate, or higher frequencies when they all operate. A functional factor also for efficiency.

The power reaches i 168 horses with a consistent torque at each speed, considering a peak of 12,8 kgm at 7.500 rpm, 0,5 kgm more than the Multistrada V4. A light and compact heart, deriving from the Desmosedici Stradale of Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 and usable already from the lowest revs, as suggested. There is also an emphasis on management, with major maintenance at 60.000km intervals.
The performance of the V4 Granturismo heart, given a 240/45 rear tire and a dedicated ratio, allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds, according to the information.
The braking system with 330 mm discs and Brembo Stylema® calipers, as mentioned, transmits equally remarkable sports performance, with peak deceleration values ​​of 11,5 m/s2. A figure achieved thanks to a targeted calibration of the ABS system.

Availability

The new Ducati Diavel V4 is expected in the Ducati network dealerships starting since January 2023.
