The new Honda CRF250R, model year 2018, debuts

Honda CRF250R – Big news for the cross bike from the house of the golden wing in the 2018 version.

The new Honda CRF250R was presented in Tennessee at the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.

The new bike breaks with the past by moving closer to its "big sister", the CRF450R. The 250, in fact, features the new aluminum alloy frame with the same design, completely similar to the 450. Remaining in the chassis field, the upside-down Showa fork with 49 mm stanchions has been revised and uses steel springs and no longer air springs .
Great news also from the engine point of view; it is now a four-stroke that adopts a new twin-cam cylinder head and four valves. This improved both draw length and maximum power with an increase of 9%. Electric starting is standard. The weight-power ratio has improved by 5% and compared to the old version, acceleration has also improved thanks to the 900 more rpm available.

The electronics have also been improved with three maps available: Mode 1 (Standard), Mode 2 (Smooth) and Mode 3 (Aggressive), to allow you to better adapt to every condition. A small light indicates the selected mode.

Like the CRF450R, the CRF250R's plastic features neat aerodynamics and a smooth, organic shape, giving the rider the freedom to move. They also feature scratch-resistant film insert graphics, providing sharp images and a durable finish.

Mikio Uchiyama, large project leader 18YM CRF250R, said: “Our new CRF250R has been redesigned to achieve exceptional launch acceleration and much greater engine performance. We replaced the Unicam unit with a brand new DOHC engine capable of running at higher rpm. It is paired with our CRF450R chassis which improves handling and rear wheel traction. Developed with the direct involvement of the HRC team, the 250 CRF2018R is a competitive and reliable motocross bike.”
