The two-wheel market continues to grow, but seems to be slowing down. Registrations of scooters and motorbikes reach 13.545 units equal to one increase of 3.8% compared to 2018. Specifically, motorcycles are growing, recording an increase of 7.1%, while scooters stop at +0.9%. Continue the bending of 50cc which also recorded negative results in January, -1.8%

In the scooter sector the most 'popular' displacement is the one between 300 and 500cc, which saw an increase in volumes of 23.2%. Registrations of 125cc vehicles are decreasing by almost the same amount, as are maxi scooters (over 500 cc). The motorcycle registrations, except that of the 1000cc segment and between 600 and 750cc, are growing: +33,6% for the 800-1000cc, +11,6% from 300 to 600cc, +10,3% for the 125cc and a +10 % for 150-250cc.

Andrea Dell'Orto, President of Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle and Motorcycle Accessories), said: “The start of 2019 still presents positive numbers for our market, but there are symptoms of a slowdown especially for scooters. We are concerned about the announcement of a technical recession by ISTAT, which jeopardizes the achievement of the objectives in 2019, but also the downward revision of the forecasts, also common to other European countries. Domestic demand is weakening and exports are also suffering from the reduction in growth in our important partner countries, which are fundamental for the automotive market. Business confidence worsens and there are risks of higher credit costs. Two-wheelers can still count on the passion aroused by motorbikes and, thanks to the increase in supply, on the opportunity to attract new users, but in order to express their full potential, more favorable conditions are needed for the development of sustainable mobility in our sector , to resume the virtuous path of recovery, targeted investments in infrastructure are needed, an update of the Highway Code which has been postponed too many times and attention to the safety features of use by those who use 2 wheels. Local administrations also play a decisive role, responsible for road conditions, parking management and the opening of preferential lanes. All activities that affect the correct use of our vehicles. Confindustria Ancma is ready to support interlocutors so that two wheels can become protagonists and are not forgotten in the drafting of urban plans for sustainable mobility."
