The two-wheel sector closes 2018 with an excellent result also thanks to an excellent balance sheet for the month of December which, with a growth of 52,9%, and despite an overall weight of 3% on annual sales, manages to improve the final balance of 2018.

We are not yet at pre-crisis levels, but the growth data is quite encouraging. 2018 ended with an increase in registrations of +7,4% (vehicles >50cc) compared to 2017 thanks to the 'driving' of the motorcycle sector which, with 92.991 units sold, grew by +12,7%. Scooters also performed well, representing the largest share (58% of the market), which grew by 3.7%. The "fifties" market is declining, closing 2018 with -12,3%. The overall total, including small displacements, stands at +5,3% compared to 2017.

Going into specifics, in December registrations doubled compared to the same period last year, 7.289 units equal to +52,9%. Motorcycles were also fundamental in the last month of 2018, thanks to 3.610 units registered which is equivalent to a +95,2%, while scooters also performed well with a total of +26,1%. For motorbikes, the growth of 300 and 600cc displacements is surprising, +56,4%, while in the scooter sector the 125cc displacement has grown the most, +11,9%. Registrations of mopeds are decreasing, marking -24% with 1.284 vehicles.

Andrea Dell'Orto, President of Confindustria ANCMA – National Cycle Motorcycle Accessories Association: “The recovery path continues in 2018 with over 15.000 more registrations compared to 2017, while 2.900 fewer “fifties” were registered. In particular, motorcycles are increasing in double figures, obtaining a share that exceeds 42% of the market. Scooters are also consolidating with a less striking, but still positive, result. The entire sector is committed to recovering pre-crisis sales volumes and we still have a few years ahead of us to achieve this objective. Our market needs to renew the fleet in circulation, given that 50% of vehicles are over 10 years old, with Euro zero, 1 and 2 approvals. This renewal will allow us to improve environmental performance and the level of safety. use.
