Continental Head-up Display, driving data seen from a different perspective

Analyzes and processes information during the driving process

Continental Head-up Display – Continental presents the Head-up Display prototype developed in collaboration with Skully Systems, an American helmet manufacturing company. One of the first manufacturers of tires and car components in the world thus sets out motorcycle service producing a system that allows the motorcyclist to visualize, within his field of vision and in real time, driving and navigation information (speed or when you need to change gear), road warnings or other important driving data (presence of an accident on the route or the angle of inclination of the motorbike) and, thanks to the connection to a camera positioned on the motorbike, It also allows you to see blind spots.

“The reliability and competence of a historic brand like Continental allow us to generate strategic synergies also for instrumentation for the world of two wheels”, said Pietro Rossi, sales manager of the Vehicle Electronic sector of Continental Italy. The Head-up Display will be applied directly to the helmet and via Bluetooth 4.0 to an electronic control unit, which through various sensors, analyzes and processes motorcycle data during the riding process; all information that the driver will be able to view on the visor of his helmet, without being distracted and therefore without risking jeopardizing his safety.

Continental has also developed a wireless charging system for mobile phones, present in a particular storage box integrated into the motorbike, compliant with the "Qi" standard specified by the Wireless Power Consotrium (WPC). To ensure effective charging, Continental intends to integrate the system Near Field Communication, short-range bi-directional wireless connectivity, with wireless charging, allowing connection with the motorbike electronics via Bluetooth. The system will be able to detect objects unduly "parked" in the charging box, such as keys or coins, immediately interrupting charging and, taking advantage of the reliability of the technology designed by Continental, will also allow temperature regulation both of the smartphone and of the motorcycle components involved in the process, preventing the devices from overheating and therefore being damaged.
