Confindustria ANCMA, Euro 4 motorcycles and scooters could remain unsold in warehouses

Possible risk of numerous vehicles not marketed

In a press release from Confindustria ANCMA, the potential risk of numerous Euro 4 two-wheeled vehicles remaining in warehouses is underlined, which could remain unsold at the end of the year, in light of the current emergency linked to the Coronavirus COVID-19 and the transition towards Euro 5 engines

Numerous examples of motorcycle e Euro 4 scooters, evaluating the current containment of the health emergency linked to COVID-19 but also the concomitance of the transition between Euro 4 e Euro 5. The reflection comes from Confindustria ANCMA, relating to a possible scenario on this front.

Possible prospects

Paul Magri, President of Confindustria ANCMA (Cycle, Motorcycle and Accessories Association), through a press release, underlines the current effect on sales of the decree adopted last year 11 March, with the suspension of the commercial activity of two-wheeler dealers, underlining the sense of responsibility implemented to contain the ongoing health emergency. To this block, however, we must also add the transition between the Euro 4 and Euro 5 engines, “governed by European Regulation 168/2013”. A provision that provides: "starting from 1 January 2021, in fact, it will no longer be possible to register Euro 4 mopeds and motorcycles, except those allowed by the end-of-series exemptions normally provided for by community directives to help manufacturers dispose of stocks", we always learn from the press release.
The current closure of retailers, given the emergency, does not currently help the possible sale of all approved vehicles Euro 4 and it follows a possible “anomalous growth” of permanent vehicles in stock, as indicated again, with numerous vehicles standing still and potentially unsellable at the end of the year.
This reflection needs immediate consideration “emergency solutions to respond to an exceptional situation, which could translate into significant damage for companies in the sector in the coming months: in particular, we believe it is necessary to think about postponing the Euro 4 registration deadline for at least six months and we therefore ask the Government Italian to promote this request also at the competent European bodies", the proposal put forward on the occasion.
