Confindustria ANCMA: 2018 opens with positive sales data

Confindustria ANCMA confirms this: in the first two months of 2018 the total of motorized two-wheelers sold in Italy totaled 28.350 units, +15,4% compared to the first two months of 2017

The month of February closed with 13.313 registrations (vehicles over 50cc), equal to + 5 % compared to February 2017. They are motorcycle to significantly support sales with 7.046 units registered and +18,1%, while the scooter they limit their losses with 6.267 pieces sold and a -6,5%. Sales of "fifties" also recorded a decrease, with 1.111 registrations equal to -12,3%. The month of February weighs on average 6% of the total year. The first two months of 2018 confirms the positive indicators of registrations and with 26.353 vehicles in January-February 2018 it grows by +17,5%. In particular, it is the motorbikes which, with 13.189 sales and +28%, earn the most percentage points; the scooter sector shows a more contained trend with 13.164 vehicles registered equal to +8,6%. 50cc vehicles in the first two months of 2018 developed slightly fewer volumes than last year with 2.324 vehicles and -3,9%.

The economic picture continues to show a strengthening of growth, thanks to exports, the recovery of employment and the support of family budgets. All this should favor consumption, however political uncertainty remains in the background which could affect the stability of forecasts. Our sector faces the challenge of sustainable mobility and must be able to assert the role of 2 wheels as a lower impact solution for individual travel. The fleet in circulation exceeds 8.600.000 vehicles and users have the right to demand the attention of local administrations so that good practices are applied, such as the use of preferential lanes, the availability of dedicated parking, correct maintenance of roads and of all infrastructures that can increase safety levels“. From the analysis of scooter registrations by displacement (over 50cc), a still positive result emerges for 125cc scooters, which alone are worth over a third of the market, with 4.675 units registered and a +7,4%, followed closely by the segment 300-500cc with 4.301 units and +8,5%; scooters from 150 to 250cc with 2.835 units fell by -9%. Maxi scooters over 500cc almost doubled, with 1.353 sales and a +95%.

for bikes over 50cc the over 1000cc reaffirmed itself as the most important segment with 3.954 sales equal to +30,2%. The following motorcycles between 800 and 1000cc reach 3.053 pieces and a -10,3%. Remarkable result for motorcycles from 300 to 500cc with 2.403 units equal to +97%. The medium displacements between 600 and 750cc with 1.832 motorcycles recorded a +16,9%. The 125cc also saw strong growth with 1.387 units and +92,9%. Finally, 560 pieces were recorded and a +57% for the 150-250cc. The situation in the motorcycle segments still sees leaders enduro road with 4.892 units and a progression of +43,5%. The naked despite growing, they are in second place with 4.461 pieces and a +35,8%; followed by touring motorbikes, the only ones in decline with 1.631 registrations and a -5%; customs were positive with 812 units equal to +11,9%; sports bikes with 687 units are growing by +30,4%, finally supermotards are recovering with 447 bikes equal to +15,2%.
